George Karras Obituary

Karras, George

On Saturday, December 13, 2014, God welcomed George Karras home.

He was born on July 10, 1924 in Chicago, IL, to the late Constantinos "Gus" and Pauline (Pentazou) Karras.

George served as a flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1947. After leaving the Air Corp, he attended Marquette University studying electrical engineering. He met the love of his life Mary Theresa in 1948. They were happily married for 66 years. George and his brother owned and operated Karras' Restaurant, an Appleton landmark, for 47 years.

George was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Community in Appleton and was instrumental in establishing the Xavier High School Food Fair, a major fund raiser. He enjoyed taking family and friends to Green Bay Packer football games for over 65 years.

George is survived by his wife, Mary Theresa (Teri), and will be sadly missed by his children: Linda (Roger) Pasch, Marcia (Robert) Falsarella, Gregory (Patti) Karras and Stephanie Karras. He is further survived by his sister Diane (Sam) Bekearis, as well as 8 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his brothers, William Karras and Nicholas Karras.

Funeral services for George will be held at 11:00AM, on Friday, December 19th, 2014, at St. Thomas More Parish with Rev. James Lucas and Rev. Gerald Falk concelebrating. Friends and family may call at the church vestibule from 9:30 AM until the start of service at 11:00am. A lunch will follow the service.

George Karras (and his brother, Nick) had a real, positive and lasting impact on my life for which I will always be grateful. I was a short-order cook at Karras Restaurant while in high school and have many wonderful memories of working with the Karras brothers and learning from their experience. My condolences to the Karras family.

So many wonderful memories of George when he was at the restaurant. My children were treated so kindly by George and his brothers. They were just talking about the many wonderful family dinners we had there. We have missed him. Praying that you will all be comforted by the Savior as you grieve the loss of this lovely man.
