Harry Swanson Obituary
Neenah - Harry T. Swanson, 100, formerly of Avon Lake, OH, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Cherry Meadows, Appleton. He was born December 8, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois. Harry married the love of his life, Charlotte M. Swanson in 1949, and enjoyed a full and happy life with her until her passing in 2014. Harry lived in Neenah for the past seven years after living in Avon Lake for 15 years. Harry and Charlotte previously resided in various locations in Southern California and the Chicago metropolitan area.
Harry is a former Marine who proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World War II on the staff of Admiral Nimitz. He spent most of his career as a senior executive and fund-raising consultant and director of development for a variety of public and private institutions throughout the country. He raised funds for numerous charitable, medical, and educational institutions including such organizations as KCET Television in Los Angeles, California Hospital, Pasadena Museum of Art, the Seattle Symphony, University of Southern California, University of Montana, to name but a few.
Harry was President of the Southern California Association of Hospital Development Directors and founding member of the Southern California Society of Fund Raisers. He was also active in numerous community and charitable organizations. He enjoyed golfing and sailing with his friends and family and traveling with his wife.
Harry is survived by his son, Todd (Julie) of Neenah; as well as three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren whom he cherished.
A memorial service for Harry will be 4:00 PM, Friday May 7 at the WESTGOR FUNERAL HOME, Neenah. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday afternoon beginning at 3:00PM until the hour of service.
