John Lyons Obituary

Lyons, John J.

John Joseph Lyons, 84, of Appleton passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at home with his wife of 58 years Shirley by his side.

John "Shorty" enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and as a Navy Seal served at ports around the world. A veteran of the Vietnam War he earned numerous citations including the Bronze Star and Silver Star. Chief "Shorty" Lyons was honorably discharged in 1968 and retired to Cable, Wisconsin. There, he enjoyed his love of the outdoors; hunting, trapping and fishing.

John will be remembered as an adoring father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his son, Scott and wife Janet Lyons of Dixon, Missouri; five grandchildren; Jessica, Ian, Ajay, Shelby and Vicky; two great grandchildren, Darian and Caitlin and Loving great niece Jenny Bowling, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by two children, Timm Lyons and Cheryl Johnson.

Per John's wishes no services will be held.

John was always ready for his next big adventure. We hope his next life is as big as this one was.

I would like to take this moment and give my respects to Mr. Lyons. I met John Lyons through his son Scott who is my oldest and dearest friend, to me it is an honor to have known John and his wife Shirley, I looked forward to seeing them every time they came to Missouri to see Scott. They took up residency in Missouri for a spell and I was fortunate to see them quite regularly, they are truly amazing people. Rest in peace Mr Lyons
