Matthew James Jansen, age 47, of Shiocton, passed away on Thursday, July 28th, 2016 in Zion, Illinois after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Appleton on May 18, 1969, the son of Heike (Bruesewitz) and Bob Heraly. Matt was happily married to his loving wife Kathy (Nooyen) on June 3, 1995. He was most proud of his two children, Courtney and Jacob. Matt proudly served his country in the US Army Infantry Bravo 4th-30th 1st Platoon from 1990 to 1993. He enjoyed working with his hands as a sheet metal worker at August Winter & Sons for 21 years. He also owned a small gunsmithing business, which he truly enjoyed. Matt loved the family vacations, hunting and simply spending time with friends and family. Matt also proudly completed the Fox Cities Half Marathon in 2009. Matt was an avid Tony Stewart fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR with friends and family.

Matt is survived by his wife Kathy; and two children, Courtney and Jacob; parents, Heike and Bob Heraly, father Mike Jansen; his three brothers Chris, Bill and Aaron (Cortney); in-laws Marvin and Mary Ann Nooyen; grandmother, Erika Bruesewitz; and numerous extended family, friends and co-workers.

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandfather, Ervin Bruesewitz; brother-in-law, Tim Vandenhoy and grandparents Jim and Florence Jansen.

A funeral service for Matthew will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Borchardt and Moder Funeral Home in Shiocton with Rev. Stephen Schlicht officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Shiocton and also on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Matthew will be laid to rest at Appleton Highland Memorial Park with full military honors.

Our family wants to extend a special thank you to so many people at the Cancer Treatment Center of America, for the compassion on making his final days comfortable. Also, thank you to the ThedaCare Cancer Center for all their help and support.

Kathy,
I am not sure if you remember me, I met Matt at Fox Valley Tech, we sat next to each other for our Sheet Metal Apprenticeship. I remember meeting you when I came to your house and working on the A/C, Matt said he had the power off and but I found out it was on when I grabbed the wire. He and I shared a bunch of US Army stories, he was a Grunt and I was a tank mechanic. After we completed our schooling I saw Matt a couple times, I think about him every time I see a Winter's truck or van. I was very sad to learn that he passed away, I really hate cancer. I lost my Dad to it 5 years ago this past February. I am very sorry for your loss, he was a good man. This world won't be the same without him in it.

Kathy and kids- I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your husband and dad. If you ever want to talk Kathy you know where I'm at. I lost my mom from cancer 20 years ago. It's hard to deal with. Hang in there and I'll see you at work when you get back. Thoughts and prayers for you and your kids!

Matt was loved by so many... Always so kind and caring. His family has ALWAYS been his pride and joy!! He will continue to be with your family watching over you matter what...
