Meta Meukow Obituary

Meukow, Meta

Meta Meukow, of Neenah, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Theda Clark Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born April 9, 1922 in Bargteheide, Germany, daughter of the late Adolf and Anna (Elwes) Rickert. On her birthday, Meta married Hans Meukow on April 9, 1948, and they enjoyed a marriage that lasted 52 wonderful years. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2000. She worked as a Nurse's Aide in a hospital in Bad Oldesloe, Germany. Meta and her husband immigrated to the United States in July of 1952.

They settled in Neenah where she worked cleaning houses and at the VNA from 1961-1981. Meta also worked in the school cafeteria at Trinity Lutheran School. Her family was always number one. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and she made many afghans, booties and wash cloths, and then gave them away as gifts.

Meta also enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden, watching the Packers, and playing sheephead with her family and at the Senior Center in Menasha. She traveled to Germany numerous times with her first trip in 1967, and also traveled to Hawaii, the Bahamas, Bonaire, Disney World in Florida, Arizona and the Grand Canyon, and a special trip to Canada and Niagara Falls with Christa and Lisa Marie.

Meta was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Neenah and their Ladies Aide.

Survivors include a daughter, Christa (Dietmar) Mirwaldt, and their children: Uta (Wolfgang) Krueger, Petra Behncke; a son, Gerd (Kathie) Meukow, and their children: Michelle and Christine Meukow; a daughter, Carla (David) Reidenbach, and their children: Amy (Matthew) Van Zeeland, Kelsey Reidenbach; two great-grandchildren: Lisa Marie Behncke and Devin Meukow; a brother, Erwin (Anne Marie) Rickert; and a sister, Ilse Graudegus; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Heinz (Gertrude) Rickert; two sisters: Herta (Richard) Grasse, Anni (Franz) Schmidt; and two brothers-in-law: Gustav Graudegus and Ulrich Meukow.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak St., Neenah, with The Rev. Tony McKenzie officiating. The visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established for the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aide and the Menasha Senior Center.

My condolences to your family. I knew Meta from Ladies' Aide when I would attend various times as a guest of my mother's, Eileen. She had a sparkling personality and I loved listening to her speak with her strong German accent.
