West, Oscar D.

Oscar D. West, age 91 of Clintonville, formerly of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the New London Family Medical Center.

Oscar Dewey West was born on October 12, 1922 in the Township of Elcho, Langlade County, WI to Artemus Dewey and Mabel (Carlson) West. Oscar graduated from Elcho High School in May 1941. On November 12, 1942, Oscar entered the US Army during WWII in Milwaukee WI. In 1943, he became part of the Army Air Corps and performed aircraft maintenance in Italy and completed his service on September 4, 1945. He continued his education as an Electrician at the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago completing in 1948. On October 29, 1949 he was united in marriage Esther Louise Matz at the Congregational Church in Elcho WI. After marriage the couple moved to Birnamwood, WI where Oscar began working for Wisconsin Power and Light Company. His employment with the Power Company took them to Baraboo, WI and finally to Marion, WI. Oscar's interests were serving others as a Boy Scout Leader, A Charter Member of the Marion Mustang Athletic Booster Club, American Legion, Marion Lions, and the Clintonville Masons. Oscar and his wife Esther were avid UW-Green Bay Phoenix basketball fans and members of the Phoenix Booster Club. Esther preceded him in death on October 1, 2009 after 59 years of marriage. Oscar is a member of Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville.

Survivors include: His sons: Paul (Kathy A.) West, Oshkosh, Bruce (Kathy L.) West, Green Bay;

3 grandchildren: Krista (Bryan) Karlson, Kari (Jason) Smith & Joshua West; 3 great-grandchildren: Brenden, Sarah & Erin Karlson, His brother: Eugene West, Elcho WI & His sister: Crystal Tschetter, Winneconne, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Esther, his sister, Hulda Wixson and his brothers, Fred & Leland "Butch" West.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Christus Lutheran Church, Clintonville with the Rev. Brian Crocker officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Township of Almon, Shawano County, WI.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.

Military honors will be conducted at the church by the American Legion Post #63 and the V.F.W. Post #664 of Clintonville.

The West family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Leslie Gray, and Rita Braund, for the excellent care provided to Oscar.
