Shirley Tanguay Obituary

Tanguay, Shirley

Shirley Mae Tanguay (Cowling), on November 12, 2017, at the age of 87, passed away peacefully to join her beloved husband, Earl.

Shirley was born on May 14, 1930 in Neenah, WI to the late David J. Cowling and Bonita V. (Post) Cowling. Her cherished brother, George Cowling was there already. Due to an early childhood illness, Shirley was afforded the luxury care of kittens. She continued her fondness for cats and kittens throughout her life.

Shirley attended Neenah High School and furthered her education through the University of Wisconsin, where she met Earl Tanguay.

They were married on June 28, 1952. Shirley and Earl square danced, polkaed, fox trotted, and waltzed through their courtship; they married and raised two children. When the nest became empty, Shirley began working happily at Krueger Hardware.

Earl passed away in 1994. Shortly afterward, Shirley moved to a lovely little house in Plover, WI; followed by living in a cozy condo. There she was gifted time with her son and his family. She was also fortunate to spent time at Brookdale Assisted Living. In the last several months, Shirley lived at the Portage County Health Care Center.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Nancy L. Tanguay Rosenbower and son-in-law, Larry Rosenbower ; son, Jim Tanguay and daughter-in- law, Mary Ellen (Schultz) Tanguay; grandchildren, Sarah J. Tanguay, Kimbery R. Tanguay, Bryce B. Rosenbower (Dylan Helgeson), and Forrest A. Rosenbower; brother, George B. Cowling; several nieces and nephews; precious cat, Julian; and a group of loving and devoted friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Tanguay; parents, David and Bonita Post; brother- in-law, Donald Tanguay; sister in law, June Cowling; and infant son, Stephen Earl Tanguay.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service at Woodlands Church in Plover, WI. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Neenah, WI at 2:00p.m.

Shirley's family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brookdale and the extraordinarily loving group of care givers at Portage County.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley has requested donations to the Portage County Humane Society or other "no-kill" shelters or to Woodlands Church local missions.

I was blessed to have Shirley as my next door neighbor since I moved into the condo next to her. She was a wonderful friend and we did many things together over the years. We visited, went to lunch with other neighbors, ran errands and talked together on the phone talking about every little thing. She was a faithful Christian and helped all she knew. I know she is now free from pain in Heaven with her husband and other family members. I missed her when she had to move to Brookdale and miss her to this day. i know you do too. My deepest sympathy to you all and I am blessed to know you all, too!

Dear Jim and family--I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your sweet Mother. I remember her fondly from our high school years--and most recently at Brookdale Assisted Living facility as my Mother is there as well.
My deepest sympathy to you and all of your family.
