Joseph Lohret Obituary

ARGYLE -- Joseph G. Lohret, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, surrounded by his family at the Pleasant Valley Health Center, Argyle, where he had resided for the past few years.

Born on April 21, 1933, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Gabrielle (Trembley) and Joseph G. Lohret Sr.

Joe served in Naval Reserves during high school and a U. S. Air Force veteran serving in the U.S. and Azores as a radio operator during the Korean War.

Following his honorable discharge from the military he returned to Elm Hill Farm on Lohret Road in Argyle to begin his career as a dairy farmer. As a boy growing up in Glens Falls he fell in love with the farm which was his grandparent's and would routinely hitchhike there to spend weekends and help out.

His strength, determination and work ethic in spite of adversity were an inspiration, not only to his family, but to all those who knew him. After his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Joe married, Sheila R. Collins on Sept. 19, 1959 at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Mary G. Lohret.

Survivors besides his wife of 46 years, include his children: Joseph G. Lohret III of Argyle, Mary Newton, and her husband, Robert, of Carthage, Roberta Brown, and her husband, Russell, of Argyle, Michael S. Lohret, of Cossayuna, Mark Lohret, and his wife, Charlotte, of Argyle, Matthew Lohret and his wife, Karen, of Argyle, Terri Bristol, and her husband, Glenn, of Argyle, Peter Lohret, and his wife, Jayne, of Latham. A brother John Lohret, and his wife, Margaret, of Cobleskill, a sister, Anne Gifford, and her husband, James of Gansevoort, 19 grandchildren: and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

As befitting Joe's selfless nature he donated his body to science.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Broadway, Fort Edward, with the Rev. Joseph Xavier, officiating.

Internment will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Argyle, www.kilmers.com.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant Valley Health Center for the wonderful care that he received while living there.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adult Day Care. c/o Vicky Fiefield, Pleasant Valley Health Center, Route 40, Argyle, New York 12809, or to the Argyle American Legion Post No. 1518, Argyle, NY 12809.
