Russell O'Connor
January 25, 1935 - August 11, 2025
Russell O'Connor, 90, of Glens Falls, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 11, 2025.
He lived a life rich with family, friendship, faith, and service - a legacy woven into the fabric of the town. Born on January 25, 1935, in Glens Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward and Ella O'Connor.
He attended Glens Falls High School and graduated in 1952. Russ then went on to Norwich College of Vermont, where he met the love of his life, Lea DeSilvio. They were married for 66 years before her passing in March of this year. Their devotion to one another was a lasting example of love and partnership.
Russell proudly served in the Army Reserves for 20 years, where he achieved the rank of Major. As a young man, Russ worked at Sandy Hill Iron and Brass. He then took over the family excavation business, Edward and Thomas O'Connor Inc., a business he successfully ran with his cousin, James O'Connor. The business still flourishes today because of Russ's dedication and integrity.
He was an avid golfer and spent many days roaming the fairways of Glens Falls Country Club. He was a sports enthusiast, and had a keen interest in WWII history. Russ was able to visit Normandy, France in 2024; a lifetime wish fulfilled.
He was an active member of St. Mary's Church and a proud member of the Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, and the International Union of Operating Engineers. He greatly enjoyed dedicating his time and energy to service and fellowship throughout his life.
A familiar and friendly face in town, it was rare for Russ to walk into a local restaurant without being greeted by name. He will be remembered for his kind, gentle nature and jovial spirit.
Russ is predeceased by his wife, Lea O'Connor of 66 years; father, Edward O'Connor; mother, Ella (Russell) O'Connor; and sister-in-law, Carol Zimmerman.
Russell is survived by his sons, Steven O'Connor of Hudson Falls, Brian O'Connor (Jacqueline) of Moreau; his sister, Kay McKenna (Tom) of Amelia Island, Fla.; and granddaughters, Katelyn O'Connor of Boston, Mass., Leah O'Connor of Sarasota, Fla.; along with many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, at the Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. As some may know, his granddaughter is currently battling cancer and her immune system is compromised, so if you have any symptoms of the flu, a cold etc., please refrain from hugging or wear a mask.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, at St. Mary's Church, 62 Warren Street, Glens Falls.
Burial will follow for Russell and his beloved Lea, in St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
In honor of his granddaughter, Leah, and in memory of Russ, donations may be made to Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, 12902 Magnolia Drive, MBCc-FOUND Tampa, FL 33612.
