David Ballou Obituary

David M. Ballou

Milton - David M. Ballou, of Milton, departed this life on June 27th, at the home of his daughter in Williamsville, NY. Dave was born in West Mansfield, MA in 1944, the son of Sidney Ballou and Barbara Collins Ballou. Dave attended Nyack Missionary College, and then spent most of his life in Ulster County, NY, where he pastored Lattingtown Baptist Church, also known as Lattingtown Christian Fellowship, for nearly 50 years. Dave lost Lorraine, his wife of 49 years, in 2015, and is survived by his daughter Diane Krause and her husband Troy of Williamsville, NY, his son Michael Ballou and his wife Kristi of Weare, NH, and his 6 grandchildren: Emily, Elizabeth, and Sean Krause, and Evan, Lauren, and Jacob Ballou. He is predeceased by his eldest sister Lillian and survived by two sisters Sandra and MaryJane and two brothers Sidney and Steve and their families.

In addition to pastoring, Dave taught in the Marlboro and Newburgh school systems for a short time, and was very active with the Milton Engine Company as a member and chaplain. When time allowed, Dave got his hands dirty working among friends and doing anything needed at Faurie's farm at the top of Old Indian Road.

Visiting hours will be held on August 11 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at Lattingtown Christian Fellowship Center. A reception will follow at Milton Engine Co. #1.

Please feel free to attend any or all of these gatherings. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lattingtown Baptist Church or Milton Engine Co. #1.

David Ballou was my mentor teacher in my very first attempt to student teach. He gave me the confidence and praise needed to embrace my over 40 year career in education. Foster Elementary in Newburgh. His memory will always be with me.

I only just heard of David's passing. David and his wife Lorraine went to Nyack Missionary College. My husband and I attended this same Bible school at that time that David and Lorriane were students there. I didn't know David well, but his story is so much like my own. I met my husband at Nyack as well. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. David and Lorriane almost made it to their 50th. Rest well David. I hope you have peace and were reunited with your love, Lorriane. June Spearing of Boston.

Dave did both of my parents, Lillian and Jim Poulins, funerals in the old church building. His funeral sermon for my mother was hilarious and captured my parents complrtely. He had already had heart problems by the time my father died at 90 so was less robust. I remember him coming along and opening up that little old church and building a congregation then needing a new building to house it in. He did a lot for the community and I'm sure will be sorely missed.

You were instrumental in me becoming a Christian and you were the best pastor ever that I could ever have hoped to have.
