Don was one of the most influential people in the resurrection of the community of Williamsburg Brooklyn. He helped bring the community back from despair. He personally arranged for the cleaning of hundreds of vacant lots which had been garbage strewn and yes were even the site of murders. With the Remarkable Kathy Wilde of the New York City Housing Partnership Don literally orchestrated the renovation of 400 apartments, in former abandoned buildings, for the poor. Together they also built 30 new family homes, on some of these same lots, for new first time home owners. Don was there when Chairman of Pfizer Edmund Pratt Jr had dinner with a Dominican NYC Police Officer and his family in one of these two family homes

Oh, Don personally did so, so much more. He was there when Pfizer inaugurated the installation of closed circuit TV cameras the protect the public at the Flushing Avenue Brooklyn subway station. He personally supervised the selection of photo enameled art work to be positioned on the walls of this subway stop. it depicted a scene of Pfizer Brooklyn in 1849. Don was also one of the key figures in establishing relationships with Carol and Joseph Reich which led to the opening of the Beginning With Children School right on the Pfizer Manufacturing plant campus.

Don personally cemented the relationships with Mayors, two Borough Presidents, and City and State elected officials. He was the one who introduced me to congress woman Nydia Valezques.

The list goes on, and on. And Yet Don accomplished all this, behind the scenes. He did no want publicity, or even a Pfizer promotion. No, he wanted to serve the poor and his leaders Chairman Edmund T. Pratt and later Chairman of Pfizer Bill Steere.

Don Jacob was a remarkable silent leader and an exceptionally skilled negotiator, a true humanitarian who really cared for the poor. And yes he was a loving husband. On many, many late nights he would always end our conversation with a tale of what his wife Nancy was up to. I heard all of the intimate in sider stuff of the live of a TV broadcaster.

I miss my friend Don Jacob. It helps a little, ok maybe a lot, to know Don has earned a seat in heaven!
