Jan "Jab" Swart

Wappingers Falls - Jan "Jab" Swart, a Town of Fishkill resident since 2005, died at his home on Wednesday, May 01, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61.

Son of the late Pieter and Sara Botha Swart, he was born in Van Der Bijl Park, South Africa on July 21, 1951. For many years, Jab served in the South African Airborne Services.

Working for the United Nations, Jab has resided in several countries throughout the world since 1999. His most recent position was Deputy Director of Security for the United Nations Development Program. He had many hobbies, and received his Black Belt from America's Finest Shotokan Karate in Fishkill. He was also a member of Valley Christian Church in Hopewell Junction.

In 1997, he married Annelene Stone in Pretoria, South Africa. Mrs. Swart survives at home. Jab is also survived by his daughter, Teresa Swart & her wife Christelle of South Africa; his son, Dr. Reinier Swart of South Africa; his son, Gustav Swart, at home; his sisters, Jessie Prinsloo & her husband Pieter and Rita Mostert & her husband Peet, both of South Africa; his mother and father-in-law, Joey & Johan Stone of South Africa; his sister and brother-in-law, Adele & Douw Steyn of South of South Africa; also many nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives & friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Valley Christian Church, 1072 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
