Steven Slifstein Obituary

Steven Slifstein

Hyde Park - Steven Lawrence Slifstein, age 74, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family December 5, 2018. Born in the Bronx on February 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Robert Milton Slifstein and Dorothy Schuldiner Slifstein, and the brother of the late Arnold Slifstein. Steve has been a loving husband to his wife Sherry Stern Slifstein for over 50 wonderful years. He is also survived by his children Ilene Slifstein, Keith and Kristin Slifstein, Stefanie and Devon Stubbs, and Matthew and Diane Slifstein. Along with his grandchildren that he adored Hayley, Zoe, Ian, Phoebe, Jacob, Jack, Marcus.

Steve was an entrepreneur for over 40 years in Dutchess County, Rockland County and Ulster County in the wholesale candy and tobacco business. He was affectionately called the Candy Man. Steve was a giant among men, not merely because of his size but his immeasurable size of his heart. Always doing for others and never expecting any recognition or repayment for his kindness and generosity. He was an active sports enthusiast including coaching baseball and ice hockey, fishing down in Sheepshead bay or any Island and don't forget the ponies.

Services will be held grave side at Montefiore Cemetery at 11 am Friday December 7, 2018. 121-83 Springfield Blvd, Jamaica, NY. A reception will follow the service.

Please join the family in celebrating Steve's incredible life on Sunday December 9 from 1 pm to 6 pm at the Slifstein's home in Hyde Park.

Not sure what to say?

November 2, 2019

Stevie was my husband's Alan's best friend in high school. In fact, he introduced Alan and i at a teacher-alumni basketball game.
I recall Stevie as a kind, gentle and loyal "bear of a man" with a great sense humor!...and did I tell you about the time he ate 24 white castles?
I hope Stevie had a wonderful life and an easy passing.
Alan passed in 2013. I feel your pain.

My sincerest condolences,

My sincere condolences to Sherri and your family. Steve was a wonderful, kind and generous man. Steve and I spent many years together teaching the kids of Hyde Park the great game of baseball. He was a kind and gentle giant, who will be missed by many. RIP my friend.
