Chester Scott
of Delancey
Chester W. "Scotty" Scott, 84, of Delancey, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. Scotty was born in New Melford, Nova Scotia, on May 4, 1924. He was the son of the late John and Eva Smith Scott. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, previously being a Merchant Marine in Canada. Prior to his service he worked for several years on tanker and cargo ships in Norwegian Waters. Mr. Scott was the owner and operator of Hawthorne Kitchens in New Jersey, where he proudly manufactured custom cabinetry. Scotty moved to Delaware County and continued working construction and building custom cabinetry, from 1970 until 1988 he and his wife, Vera, owned and operated the Valley View Motel and Restaurant in Hamden until their retirement. Scotty was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for hunting and fishing. He was also a member of Club Royale Oasis in Walton. He was predeceased by his siblings, Betty, Harriet, John and Samuel. Scotty is survived by his wife, Vera Bubniak Scott, Delancey; daughters, Barbara Ann Scott, South New Jersey, Nancy Louise Scott, Jacksonville, Fla., Deborah Lynn Scott, Butler, N.J., and Beverly Jane (Arthur) Faner, Meyersdale, Pa.; stepdaughters, Patricia Louise (Earl) Arbuckle, Mahwah, N.J., and Honor Marie (Barry) Brunenkant, Tucson, Ariz.; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Carman (Carol) Scott, Ontario, Canada, and Leslie (Vivian) Scott, Guysborough, Nova Scotia; sisters, Eva Clare Ridgeway, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Blanche Foss, Harvard, Mass., and Helen O'Connor, Boylston, Nova Scotia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Scotty's family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. At Scotty's request there will be no funeral service. Burial will take place in the family cemetery plot in Nova Scotia. Between calling hours Vera would like to invite all of Scotty's friends and family for a reception at Club Royale Oasis, 231 Delaware St., Walton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2008.
