Merle Wright Obituary
Merle R. Wright, 82, of Owego, went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2017.
Merle is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lilly; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Keith Seidel, his son, David Wright, his grandchildren: Jamie, Jason, Kyle, Cassidy, Kellie and his 5 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Allison and Matilda Wright, Merle was predeceased by his siblings, Frances, Dwight, Harold and James Wright, and Bessie 'Betty' Barton.
Merle was raised on the family farm in Flemingville. He was a graduate of Owego High School, served in the US Army in Korea and was a retired employee of IBM, Owego. For 48 years, Merle was an active member of the Owego Fire Dept./Emergency Squad, and held many positions including Truck Foreman and Pres. of Company #1. He also volunteered with the Fire Police (Lieutenant) well into his seventies and was a Life member of the VFW Post 1371, Owego. An avid football fan, he also assisted with the Owego Junior Football League. Merle enjoyed his life and maintained the positive, jolly attitude he will be remembered for… even throughout his illness.
His family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Saturday from 11 am until the time of his Funeral Service at 1 pm. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley where full military honors will be accorded. Friends wishing may kindly consider directing memorials in his memory to the Owego Fire Dept. 87 No. Ave. Owego NY 13827 specifically designated to the continued development of its Training Facility. Merle would like that.

I am sadden to hear of the passing of Merle, I have many fond memories him when we were working In maintenance at IBM/Lockheed.

To Lilly and family, Merle was a great person that gave his time to serve the community and others. I had many conversations over the years at the station, and at work. Enjoyed his thoughts and strength. Thank you for your service Merle. May all in the family remember the best of times.

Lilly, Sue and family, Judy and I were sad to learn of Merle's passing. We remember him as being very friendly, kind and loved having a good time. He was very devoted to his family. We will keep you in thought and prayers during this difficult time.
