Rest In Peace and Power, Pete!
I am grateful for the advise that you gave me when I was an under/grad student at UCR, esp giving me the opportunity to do my student teaching at Emerson, as well as when I was an K12 teacher/ admin, reading specialist, and professor( cc/ university) for 45 years. Diana was my mentor and a dear friend, and your daughter, was one of my best students! I was able to visit with you, briefly, a couple of years ago, and I will always cherish that memory!
God bless the fam!

1st - In the 60´s, My parents; Mr. Willie & Mrs. Essie Sneed, myself, & siblings fondly know Mr. Pete Anderson from his weekly trips out to my parent´s home located in what was then called Perris/Woodcrest, California for coming to get his haircut. Mr. Pete Anderson truly represented and wore an Afro well. He had a head full of hair, his afro was always perfectly shaped, and looking good. After getting his hair cut sometimes my mother would serve food and lemon aide, and the men would sit around talking, laughing and shooting-the-breeze. Mr. Anderson seem to always have a knack for initiating laughter.
2nd - When I transferred from Longfellow Elementary to Emerson Elementary Mr. Pete Anderson was the Assistant Principal who I remember always had a smile on his face. I remember crying in Mr. Glenn Kings class, Mr. Anderson was called to the classroom to take me to the office, he walked in with a smile on his face, and upon recognizing him I remember thinking everything was going to be okay. Then, he took one look at me, looked at Mr. King saying, "I can´t take that child to the office I know her father her parents, we got to do something to stop her from crying before we call anyone." Mr. King said, "you got to be kidding me." Mr. Anderson said, "look man, no I ain´t, what happened here, you got to stop her from crying, trust me, as he looked at me with a smile on his face." Eventually I stopped crying, and with a smile on his face Mr. Anderson said to me I´ll talk to your parents, okay.
3rd - Mr. Pete Anderson was one of my counselors when I attended John West North High School class of 1978. Mr. Pete Anderson and Mr. Glenn King both were positive mentors full of life lived lessons on how to achieve and succeed in life for all of their students and all that would listen.
My sympathy and condolences to the family. Thank God for blessing this world with strong Black Men that were Males, Teachers, Mentors, A Friend, and Professionals that taught us children under their tutelage, no boundaries.
In Sympathy,

Mr. Anderson was my 4th and 6th grade elementary school teacher at Highgrove Elementary. We might have been his first class. A group of us in those classes kept in touch with him over the years. I sent birthday and Christmas cards, and he always called me up after he received a card even this past May when it was getting more difficult for him to talk. I am ever thankful for the influence in my life as a person and as a teacher. I will miss our phone conversations. Deepest condolences to his family and all who love him. Debbi Mills Lang

My husband and I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Anderson family. My family knew Mr. Anderson for many years as a great influencer in the Riverside community, it's school district as former employees and some as North HS students. I had the privilege of working with him and Glenn King at Emerson Elementary in the late 1970's. Both men dedicated themselves to the improvement of each student and individual they came in contact with. I continue to remember the five cent mini Coke Colas we had during our work breaks at the office, the guidance he showed to my siblings and niece at North HS, the Riverside USD employees and in the community. Mr. Anderson will always be the kindest man and fellow Virginian that I'll hold in my memories. Rest in Peace, Mr. Anderson and thank you for being one of the kindest persons anyone can ever meet. My former husband, Glenn King and I met Pete and his beautiful wife Diana as new UCR graduates in 1970. The UCR Education Department was initiating an accelerated teacher training program to bring more teachers of color into the Riverside Unified School District. Glenn was assigned to Emerson Elementary School that September, and he was extremely fortunate to have Pete as a mentor. He provided support and encouragement that first year, and the years that followed. They developed a close friendship that lasted throughout their careers at RUSD and after. Even in retirement they continued to regularly attend North High School basketball games together. It was more than just a friendship...they were like family to each other.
Pete was a special and unique person who always had a smile, and he knew no strangers. He was a wonderful husband and father. Sadly we lost both Glenn and Pete this year, but I am sure that they will continue to follow North's basketball games.
Andre, Anjanette, and Angela, I will sincerely miss your Dad, as will so many in the Riverside Community.

As a former North High School student, it was always comforting to know Mr. Anderson was always there for his students. He knew your parents by name and threatened to call them if necessary. Fond memories of going to lunch in the bed of his truck to Tinas, D'Elias or Shakey's. Rest in Heaven Mr. Anderson. You will be missed but you left a great legacy!
