David Boney Obituary

BONEY, DAVID V., 80 - of Absecon Shores, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Dave was born and raised in Pleasantville, where he was active in many sports. He played baseball, basketball and football for the Pleasantville Jokers and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1942. Dave served two years in the US Navy as an electrician's mate. Dave graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in electrical engineering. While attending the University, Dave was the captain of the baseball team. One of his most memorable games was against Yale University, whose first baseman was former President George Bush. Dave also played on the Morgan Warriors freshman football team. He went on to play professional baseball in Stratford, Canada. Additional teams Dave played for throughout the years included the Atlantic City Kiwanis, Pleasantville A's, Pleasantville Regulars, Absecon Indians, Farley All-Stars and the Inlet Club. Dave was the recipient of the Pop Higbee Award in 1993. Dave spent his career of over 30 years at Atlantic City Electric Company, where he retired in 1986 as Vice President of Customer & Community Service. He will fondly be remembered for his fairness and devotion to all his fellow employees. During his lifetime, Dave served on the Atlantic City Rotary, Atlantic City Jaycees, the Pleasantville Board of Education and Planning Board, lEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers), the Quarter Century Club, was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church where he served on the building committee, and was the chairman of the Pleasantville High School Class of 42 Reunion Committee. Dave's passion for sports continued coaching many of his children teams in Pleasantville and for the Absecon Social and Athletic Club (ASAC). In later years, Dave especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their various sporting events. A former member of the Boney Gang and Pinehurst Gunning Club, Dave was an avid hunter, spending countless hours in the woods with his sons and grandsons. He was previously the director of the board of trustees of the Atlantic Game Preserve, and frequently hunted with the Cooper Swamp Gun Club. Some of his fondest memories include hunting with his three sons in TX and MT. Dave often vacationed with his family in Las Vegas, where he handicapped some of his last races at the sportsbook just this past October. Over the years he was a frequent visitor to the Atlantic City Race Course, recently cashing in his winning tickets for this year's Breeders Cup. Dave is predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Sadie Boney and his brother Richard Boney. Above all things, Dave was most proud of his family. Dave is survived by Marion (Millar) Boney, his loving wife of over 56 years, and their seven children: David Boney (Deb) of Libby, MT; Barbara Gates (Tom) of Absecon; Sandra Boney (Bill Kerstetter) of Absecon & FL; Samuel Boney (Denise) of Park City, UT; Michael Boney (Lisa) of Cologne; Christina Favre (Glen) of Absecon and Maria Moilanen (Dean) of Las Vegas, NV. Pop, It's been 31 days since we spoke, Joanne,Amy and I miss you very, very much & I still go to your house on my lunch hour wishing you were there with Na-Na (your other half). I say that for not only for the fact that you two were married for over 56 years but for the fact that you both had great family values and created 7 very special children and cared for many grandchildren including myself through the thick and the thin.

I've been thinking of you allot especially when I go hunting, Mike tells me the same. Mom misses you so much too. By the way, happy birthday Pop. When I get sad I try to remember the funny one liners or wise cracks you made at various places but the ones I like the most were the ones that you made when Na- Na was making lunch or dinner, you sometimes would refer to Na Na as "she" just kidding with her, and then turn around and wink when she got mad. You always told me you don't know what you would do without her and how great of a cook she is! (this we all know)

I just got a call from the wedding photographer and he said that you were in almost every dancing shot ! I'm glad you had a good time that day. We all miss you and don't worry about Na Na, she is in very good hands.

Your Loving Grandson

As we share memories....how about Christmas Day at the Boney house. All 55 guests/relatives (give or take a few) arrive before noon for the holiday feast. Dad's in the kitchen carving the turkey and taste testing at the same time! Everyone sits down to enjoy the meal and you better eat your fresh fruit cup (Mom's orders)! We manage to finish eating within ten minutes what took five hours to cook! Then we would exchange Christmas gifts and one by one head home. Merry Christmas Dad!

While growing up in Absecon with Dave's son, Mike, we spent many days together in the "Shores". I was always made to feel welcome at the Boney home. In later years I looked forward to seeing Mr. Boney at the various baseball and softball games Mike and I played in together, and the spirited conversations we would have about sports. He never failed first and foremost to ask how my family was doing. His devotion to his family was unmatched and he was without question our most loyal fan. They are especially fond memories at this sad time. My thoughts are with the entire Boney family.
