GILLESPIE, ROBERT E., 80 - of S Vineland, passed away on Wednesday at his residence after an eight year battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in S. Vineland for nearly all of his life. Mr. Gillespie was a graduate of the Sacred Heart High School in Vineland. He was a US Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, having served in Okinawa. As a young man he was an athlete who boxed in amateur fights and while in the Army Air Corps as well. He was also a very good tennis player. Mr. Gillespie was a self employed excavator in the Vineland area for many years. He enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting antiques. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Son of the late Catherine (Callahan) & John Gillespie and brother of the late, Catherine Presgraves, Virginia Hahn, John, Bill, Harold, & Paul Gillespie; he is survived by; his beloved wife of 16 years, Rose E. (Conto) Gillespie; three daughters & two stepdaughters Kathleen Carlin & her husband Larry of Vineland, Cynthia Staehle of Vineland, Robyn Montagna & her husband Darrin of Vineland, Karen Becker & her husband Michael of Ocean City, Patty Rocco & her husband James of Mays Landing, brother Jerome Gillespie of Vineland, sister Helen Bailey of Vineland, four grandchildren & three step grandchildren: Kevin Tuso, Megan Carlin, Caroline Montagna, Emily Montagna, Matthew Becker, Robert Becker & Christian Rocco; one great grandchild Kevin A. Tuso, numerous nieces and nephews. His funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Isidore the Farmer RC Church, 1655 Magnolia Rd., Vineland. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Rd., Vineland.
