WILLIAM MANNERING Obituary



MANNERING, WILLIAM J. 85 - of Absecon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 1, 2011. Born in Folsom, he later grew up in the Inlet then served in the US Navy during World War II in the European African and Middle Eastern Theatres and then in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1943 - 1946. Upon honorable discharge he worked for the Reading railroad then the A&P. He joined the Ventnor City Police department in 1954 where he was affectionately known as "Ringo." He retired from the force after 25 years of service as a Sergeant. Bill was a member of the St. James couples club and is fondly remembered selling ice cream along the Ventnor City beaches. Upon retirement he was an agent for Albert Schriebman Real Estate. He was also an avid bowler, pool player, and a diehard Yankee fan. Bill was predeceased by his parents Henry and Lena, his brothers Oscar, Edward, Thomas, John "Skeeter", his sister Wilhelmina "Honey" Class and his son-in-law Tony Merlino. Bill was survived by his loving wife of 64 years Kathleen (Fussner), his children Kathleen Perfetti (CP), Carol Burke (Michael), Tom (Michele), and Michael (Jill). His grandchildren Gina Griffith (Jack), Aimee Shaw (Cameron), Danielle Zacchi (John), Erin Koske (Ryan), Kaitlyn Mannering, Lauren Mannering, and Michael Mannering. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, his dear friend Judy Kitching and several extended family members and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, Jan. 5th at Holy Trinity Parish - St. James Church, Ventnor where friends may call beginning at 9:30 am until time of Mass. I was so saddened today to find out
that Bill had passed away. He was such
a wonderful person and I will miss
him deeply. I have all good memories
of him. His passing had tears falling
from my eyes because i loved him, such

Reading Bill's obit brought back a flood of memories; Monmouth Ave, running down to beach 6 to get ice cream for him and getting a free sandwich, police picnics, fireman vs. police softball game and all the great guys on the force back then.
