PAUL BROWN Obituary

Mr. Paul Archer Brown, 79, entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Liberty Hospice House of the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Veterans Medical Center, Salisbury, N.C.

He was the son of the late Paul F. Brown and the late Mollie Hobbs Brown. He was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Hebron, Va. He joined the Bloomfield Baptist Church at an early age, where he served as an usher.

Paul graduated from Southside High School and went on to serve his country with honor and distinction. He served two years in the United States Army and was an honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War. Following his military service, Paul was employed at Central State Hospital for 13 years. He left Central State Hospital and became employed by the Firestone Plant in Hopewell, where he retired after 32 years. Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda M. Brown; two sisters, Helen Claiborne and Louise Moore; and three brothers, Charles Brown, Luther (Percell) Brown and Franklin Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Lisa N. Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; a devoted former wife, Edmonia Brown of Petersburg; three sisters-in-law, Rena Brown of Blackstone, Edith Brown of Petersburg and Catherine Harris (James) of Virginia Beach; three brothers-in-law, Caleb Williams (Alice), George Williams (Alice) and Isaiah Williams (Carrie), all of South Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, to include two devoted friends, Leander Matthews and Joe Lyons, both of Petersburg.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Bloomfield Baptist Church, Wilsons, Va., with the pastor, the Rev. Kim White, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with military honors. The family will assemble at the Petersburg Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home at noon on the day of the service. Mr. Brown may be viewed on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the funeral home.
