Susie Pulley Obituary

On Thursday, June 17, 2010, our hearts were turned solemn when our crowned jewel, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, Susie Bell Edwards Pulley, departed this life at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Va.

She was born July 7, 1926, to the late Norma Lee Bailey Edwards Bland and the late Fitzhugh Lee Edwards. Susie found Christ at an early age and joined Little Bethel Baptist Church in Stony Creek, Va. She was a graduate of Dinwiddie Training School, Class of 1946. Susie retired from Imperial Reading Co., where she worked for many years. She was also a member of the Good Fellowship Birthday Club.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fitzhugh Lee Edwards; sister, little Lottie Lee Bland; brother, Fitzhugh Edwards; sister, Thelma Robinson; stepfather, Major Bland; and mother, Norma Lee Bailey Edwards Bland.

Left to spread her legacy, cherish her memory and spread her lessons of family, love and devotion, she leaves a devoted husband, Fred Henry Pulley St.; six loving and devoted children, Fred "Junie" Pulley Jr. (Carolyn), Annie Bell Pulley Mason (late James), Calvin Jerome Pulley (Claudette), Faith L. Pulley Winfield (Willie), Gail P. Pulley and Ivor Keith Pulley (Freda); 13 loving grandchildren, devoted Sonya B. Mason Weaver (Steve), Sophia D. Mason, Tyrell R. Bonner, Tyrone U. Bonner Jr. (Gail), Frederick H. Pulley (Virginia), Adrian T. Myrick, Sean J. Winfield, Marcell Cooper, Debra Winfield Felton (Prentice), Teshima L. Stewart, devoted Brittany L. Myrick, Sinead K. Pulley and Christopher G. Pulley; 14 great-grandchilren; and one great-great-granddaughter; seven loving siblings, Glovenia Patterson (late Lee Andrew Sr.) Virgie Bonner (Harrison Sr.), Richard Edwards (Ruth), Vernice Walker (late Lankey), Booker Edwards (Ida), Mary White (late Raymond), and a devoted sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Earnest Johnson; five sisters-in-law, Agnes, devoted Mattie, Bernice, Sue and Thelma; four brothers-in-law, James, Willard, Steven and Eddie; lots of nieces and nephews, among them two devoted nieces, Alesia Johnson and Beatrice Crutcher; and a host of other relatives and close devoted friends.

Susie Bell Edwards Pulley was our glue, our protector, provider and the epitome of what an angel on Earth truly was. Her legacy will be transcended for generations to come, never forgetting her lessons taught and her memories bestowed among us all.

Services for the celebration of the life of Susie Bell Edwards Pulley will be held at noon Thursday, June 24, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, the Rev. David Banks officiating. Interment will be at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George. Remains rest at Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, where the wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23.

The repast will be held at Masonic Temple, 1004 Halifax St., Petersburg, immediately following the interment. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of Elsie and Earnest Johnson, 15610 Brick Road, Carson. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.

To the Pulley Family,

Grandma Susie will "Truly Be Missed."
She always treated us as if we were a part of her family. She shared her Love and Kindness everytime we came to her home. We will always remember her Beautiful Smile, She was definitely an Angel sent from above!! If the Family needs anything, please do not hesitate to call.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
