Ms. Tonya Marie Bailey Gregory, 56, was called home to rest on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell, VA. Tonya was a graduate of Hopewell High School Class of 1983. She worked in Security until she became a Department Manager at Walmart, Chester, VA. During that time, she met her former husband Lloyd Gregory, Sr. and the two would later marry in 1990.
Tonya's heart was of pure gold and always willing to help others in any way that she could. She graced everyone with her warm beautiful smile and personality whenever she would walk into a room. If you laughed, she laughed and if you cried, she cried, your pain was her pain.
Tonya never met a stranger; everyone was a friend to her. She was always about family. Not only was she a wonderful mother to her children, she embraced their friends and was a mother to them as well. She enjoyed helping her cousin, Anitra Andrew in her beauty salon. Tonya was always there to listen to others' problems and always putting the needs of others first.
Tonya's, good morning as well as her holiday, birthdays and "I Love You" text messages will truly be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Bailey, Sr.; as well as her maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Wilson, Sr. Tonya leaves to cherish her memories: two very loving and devoted children, Marquis Gregory (Sade) of Chantilly, VA and Kayla L. Gregory of Hopewell, VA; two stepsons, Lloyd Gregory, Jr. and Norrell Gregory of King George, VA; her loving parents, Clarence H. Bailey, Sr. and Maretha Wilson Bailey; one brother, Clarence H. "Speedy" Bailey, Jr. (Sharon Carrington); one sister, Kyesh T. Vega of Raleigh, NC; two god-children, Jasmine Ringer and Magan Taylor both of Raleigh, NC; nephew, Sean Browder; niece, Zahara Flowers; two uncles, Goldie Bailey (Ora) of Prince George, VA; Oscar Bailey (Gloria) of Hopewell, VA; four aunts, Gladys Lyons (Joe) of Petersburg, VA, Adelle Ringer of Raleigh, NC, Maza Wilson and Dorothy Wilson both of Hopewell, VA; former mother-in-law, Mildred Walker of Alexandria, VA; two former sisters-in-law, Rosalind Green of Alexandria, VA, and Deanna Hickman of Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends to include: Patricia Wilson (like a sister) of El Paso, TX, Virginia Pierce, Monica Turner, Arlisa Jones, Kathy Jones, Ruby Wilson, John "Beaver" Wilson, Jr., Tameka Perry, Lafayette Thomas, Anitra Andrews, Melanic Tyler, Denzel Williams, John W. Taylor, Carol Williams, and Rev. Jackie Tucker; one grand-pup, Bently whom she adored.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 2, 2021 in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Carl M. Johnson, eulogist. The interment to follow at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at 10:00 A.M., the day of the service at 804 Chestnut Street, Hopewell, VA, (the family also asks that you park on Westover Avenue if you are following the funeral processional).
