William Henry Obituary

Lt. Col. William (Bill) Forrest Henry, U.S. Air Force Ret., 79, of Colonial Heights, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 2, 1928 in Sulphur, Okla. to the late Harry James and Winifried Ferguson Henry and was preceded in death by his sister, Darla Henry Popovac of Alexandria, La., brother, Harry James Henry Jr. of Sulphur, La.

Mr. Henry was a graduate of Oklahoma Military Academy and the University of Oklahoma.

He served his country in the United States Army and Air Force during World War II, Korea and the Cuban missile crisis.

Mr. Henry was the retired owner of Precision Tune in Petersburg.

He was a member of Ocran United Methodist Church, Acca Temple Shrine, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years Jean Garrett Henry; two daughters, Caryl Henry Maitland (Barry) of Richmond and Susan Henry Crocker (Bruce) of Colonial Heights; six grandchildren, Jacqueline Henry, Jaycie Crocker, Justin, Jeremy, Jayson and Jeana Maitland.

He is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 at Ocran United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene Tatum officiating and where the family will receive friends after the service until 5:30 p.m.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ocran United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 20807 Cox Road, Sutherland, Va., 23885.

Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.

Grandad I wish we could have had a chance to have established a normal relationship...We have so many things in common & your spirit is alive within me regaurdless of the paths that each of our lives lead us from one another. Hello,
My name is Kathryn Kirchhoff Wrench. I am the daughter of Wanda Jean Stephens (Kirchhoff) who was Bill's first cousin. I never had the pleasure of meeting Bill but heard many stories about the antics that he, his brother "Hank" and cousins got in to on Great Grandmother Mary Jane Goodall Ferguson Hobb's farm in Hickory, OK. (A favorite one is about the time that found a rattle snake nest and were playing with the babies before an adult "saved" them from certain mortal injury.) My mother and her cousins attended school in HIckory, OK together. She loved them. She was especially close to Darla Popovac and her husband Dan and my parents built the house next to them on Echo Lake, MT.
My dad passed away in 2003. My mother is still alive, though her memories are going and she is in an assisted living facility in Santa Barbara, CA where I live. Her 84th birthday is coming up on March 25th.
Again, our apologies for not writing before now. We didn't know. We would love to get and share information we have on the Ferguson/Hobbs family.

My deepest sympathy for Aunt Jean, Susan and Caryl. Uncle Bill was a great man and fishing partner...he was always there for me as I was growing up...a second father who would always take his time if you needed him.
I know he will be missed but not forgotten...a man who would help anyone who needed it.

MY SECRET GARDEN

I go into my secret garden
To dream and hope and pray;
The beauty of flowers found there
Almost takes my breath away.

The roses bloom profusely
All attended by busy bees;

To commune with God and nature

Lord, Mama’s Coming Home

‘O Lord Mama is coming home very soon I know.
Only when you hold her in your arms Lord, can I let her go.
She has been with me and we have shared all joy together
You, Lord, know how ill she is now; take her with You forever
She is dying Lord, and we want her to be in Your hand;
We want her to be there with Daddy, in Heaven’s land.

She is Mama. She will always be Mama to us all, but Thou will
Put Thy arms about her sweet Jesus; hold her against your breast still
Somehow I will know when she is gone and You have her; I’ll know it’s Your will.
She cannot go on much longer; as You said it’s time to let her go, still....
She was my foundation; my model; my rock in this old life to be,
Take her home under Thy wing Lord; please, no more strife, but Victory.

She helped us through life and to sort out troubles and mend,
All that was in our power, since I can’t even remember when.
She is in misery sweet Lord; please take it away from our Mother
She would sit and work or cook, as we were growing up like no other.
Bring the Holy Spirit upon both her and my sis and me
That will let us know without any doubt; she’s entering Eternity.

I’d like to hear her sing “Beulah Land“, and,
.......“I Want To Stroll All Over Heaven With You“.
If it’s Your will, Lord, give her comfort, a place to stroll all over Heaven too.
Carry us through this Lord; give comfort to her and me too
We have, and do love her with all our being; let her come on to You.
She’s the Mama whose lap we sat on; sometimes, Daddy’s too
They loved Thee Lord; loved each other; and they surely loved us true.

I know Father, You’ll give her crowns of life; Crowns of goodness and strength.
And I know Thou will remember her work, the work she did at length.
She is a mother among mothers; she kept all her family well, and will there too,
We know Heavenly Father her time will be with Thee there in all she can do...
Kiss her tears all away as though they never were at all.
Father, take her in Thine own hand and tell her You’ve come to call.
