Mr. William Thornton Johns Jr., also known as Billy of 3145 Spring Grove Rd., Spring Grove, Virginia. He transitioned on November 16, 2018. William was a 1977 graduate of Surry County High School. He was an artist, photographer, mechanic, electrician, carpenter and so much more. His hobbies were playing pool, basketball, and his electronic devices. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Amiyah Kaliea Johns and father William Thornton Johns Jr.
William was a faithful member of Fountain of Life Outreach Church in Hopewell Virginia. He enjoyed worshipping God and taking his grandkids to church. He was employed at Dominion Energy for 39 years.
Mr. Johns leaves to cherish his legacy, a wife of 29 years Teresa Johns of Spring Grove, Virginia; a devoted son, Wilhelm Kenneal Johns (Adrienna) (Prince George, Virginia) AKA his bundle of Joy; 3 grandchildren, Shantia (whom he help raised) Anaiyah and Malachi Johns; nother, Josephine Hinton of Claremont, Virginia; 8 siblings, Gwen Grant (Paul) of Fayetteville North Carolina, Wynona Thomas, (Reginald) of Jacksonville North Carolina, Elaine Crew (Henry) of Charles City Virginia, Elisha Gwaltney of Newport News Virginia, Norman Johns of Hollywood, Florida, Gloria Haskett of Baltimore Maryland, Reco Johns and Carilla Lawson (Okorite), both of Chesterfield Virginia; one uncle, Clarence Brown (Agnes) of Disputanta, Virginia; father-in-law, Kenneth Bailey (Carolyn) of Williamsburg, Virginia; mother-in-law, Flossie Bailey of Spring Grove, Virginia; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bailey (Patricia) of Newport News, Virginia; sister-in-law, Vicky Wade (Otis) of Williamsburg, Virginia; sister-in-laws, Tammy Jones and Aquilla Washington of Williamsburg, Virginia; brother-in-law, Tony Bailey (Teresa) of Prince George, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Chanda Jones and Chandell Jones of Newport News, Virginia. He has a host of nephew, nieces, family and friends. Also has a host of nephew, nieces, aunts and uncle in-laws. He has a devoted friend, Tyrone Jackson Sr.
A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 23, 2018, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 19121 Brandon Road Spring Grove, Va. Interment will be in Swanns Point Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Poole's Funeral Home, 8721 Colonial Trail East, Smithfield, VA 23430, 757-357-4742.

Teresa and family, no words I can express will relieve the pain of your loss but I do send my condolences. I worked with Billy for many years at Dominion when it was still VEPCO. He was a mentor and a friend who taught me many lessons for which I will always be grateful. He taught me how to find the silver lining in all of the dark clouds and how to work with individuals that were hard to deal with. He taught me to appreciate every day and to never give up. We worked many long hours and hard shifts and his passing was a shock. He was truly a great man and loved by all that knew him and he will be missed. God has a new angel and please try to find some comfort in all of the lives that Billy touched in such a positive way.

May the love and peace of God be with you and your family through this most difficult time and days ahead. My heart was sadden to hear of Billy's passing. I have always known Billy to be a kind and quiet spirited person. Teresa, if God brought you to, he will carry you through. Be blessed!

Billy and I have done a lot of tasks together in our 39 years with Dominion. Billy was a go to person that could always be counted on and trusted in. His Faith in God was evident and I know he is with our Lord. Teresa, I will continue to pray for God's love and comfort to be with you and your family. We will miss Billy.
