07/05/2025
ANDERSON, IN formerly of MELROSE, OH: Janette Ellen Evans Coplin, age 90, formerly of Melrose, OH, passed peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025 to her heavenly home.
Janette was born on September 18, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Clyde Evans and Marjorie Sickmiller. Janette grew up in Paulding County, graduating from Oakwood High School in 1952. Janette married Stanley Coplin on October 26, 1952, and Stan deployed a few weeks later to serve in the Korean war. After Stan's return from service in 1954, they started a family and filled their home with faith, music, and love.
At age 27 and with three small children at home, Janette took piano lessons for four years at Defiance College. The kids fell asleep each night listening to Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Scarlatti. A student of music, Janette also took organ lessons from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Defiance, Ohio and voice lessons from Defiance College, as well. She taught group music lessons in two different stores in Defiance before moving lessons to her home. For 58 years, Janette gave music lessons to countless children and adults from her home in Melrose, at one point even giving 18 lessons in one day. Janette played piano and organ for many weddings and other occasions in the community, and for many years she played piano for the worship service at Rose Hill Church of God.
Over the years, Janette attended Auglaize Chapel Church of God in Oakwood, OH, Rose Hill Church of God in Paulding, OH, and, since moving closer to her children, South Meridian Church of God in Anderson, IN. Janette and the family attended and enjoyed the Anderson Church of God International Camp Meeting and the local Payne Camp Meeting and took camping trips to surrounding states as well. Janette's relationship with God was the most important part of her life, and she had the gift of sharing His love with others. She wrote a song titled "I Want My Life to Count for Jesus," and it truly did. She thoroughly enjoyed having others sing it along with her as she spread the message.
Janette continued her love of bringing out talent in others by giving them mini music and "Pop Art" lessons, a form of art she had created. Over the course of the years, Janette produced thousands of pieces of art, had an art show in Anderson, IN, and has a piece currently displayed at a shop in the bottom of the Space Needle in Washington.
Janette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be remembered for her faith, determination, creativity, and encouragement, but mostly she'll be remembered for the love she had for her husband of 70 years, her family, and her love for the Lord.
Janette is survived by her children: Julie (Grant) Alford, Alexandria, IN; Kathy (Randy) Wilson, Fortville, IN; David (Teresa) Coplin, Anderson, IN; step-sister: Judy (Dennis) Baker; step-brothers: John (Roberta) Sickmiller and Jerry Sickmiller; half-brother: Joe Sickmiller; and brother: DeWayne (Sharon) Evans; grandchildren: Haley (Michael) Frischkorn; Ryan Alford; Brittany (Kirk) Webber; Alyssa (Andrew) Janutolo; Mandy (Will) Johnson; Kylee (Tyler) Snyder; Alaina (Gabriel) Porch, Blake (Courtney) Alford; great grandchildren: Sophie, Grace, Jack, Kinley, John, Kase, Everett, Faisal, Nella, and Olive.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Stan Coplin; sisters: Winona (Dick) Hays, Garnett (Herb) Noble, Marjane (Lee) Baker; brother: Donald Evans; and step-father: Eryl Sickmiller.
Visitation and funeral services for Janette will be held on Friday, July 18, at Rose Hill Church of God. Visitation will be from 11-1, and the funeral service will be held directly afterwards at 1:00 p.m. Rev. David Coplin and Pastor Ron Hofacker will be officiating. Burial will be held in Wiltsie Cemetery, Harrison Township.
