Kenneth Nanian Obituary

NANIAN, M.D., KENNETH B.
90, died on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. For 58 years he was the beloved husband of Patricia (Zartarian) Nanian of East Greenwich, RI. He was born in Providence, RI to the late Karekin and Rose (Mooradian) Nanian.
Ken was a graduate of Cranston High School, Brown University and Tufts Medical School. After his internship in Internal Medicine and residency, he practiced Cardiology at Rhode Island Hospital for 40 years. His welcoming smile and obvious pleasure in his encounters with patients and colleagues, not to mention his skill, improved the lives of all he touched, including those he taught and mentored.
While he was dedicated to his work, he loved the time he spent with family and friends. Whether listening to music, sailing, skiing, or just sharing a joke, his enthusiasm was contagious, and he took obvious delight in the enjoyment of others. No one was better at turning a bitter, icy ski day into a forced march to fun.
Besides his wife Pat, he is survived by their three sons: David Nanian and his partner Elizabeth Billingham of Weston, MA; John Nanian and his wife Beatrice of Warwick, RI; and Paul Nanian of Rumney, NH. He also leaves three loving grandchildren, Chloe, Willem and Camilia; and one sister, Hope Meguerian of Lemont, IL. He was predeceased by his younger sister Cynthia Pierce.
Ken's memorial service will take place at First Baptist Church, 30 Peirce Street, East Greenwich, RI 02818 on Wednesday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, or Armenia Tree Project, 400 West Cummings Park, Suite 3900, Woburn, MA 01801 or online atwww.armeniatree.org. Remembrances may be shared at carpenterjenks.com.

As has been our practice for the past 60 plus years, I prepared an email describing our events for the past year while waiting for the Christmas card from Ken and Pat. When the email was returned as undeliverable I searched the Internet and discovered the painful news. Pat, I know you've had a great life with Kennie (as you know I was the only person allowed to call him that) and I can reminiscence and recall all the great times we've had together, first in France, then in Alaska, then the northeast and of course out here in the west skiing. I have great stories I can share with the family some day but for now don't grieve but rather enjoy your wonderful memories of your lives together. I certainly will. Hugs, Matt and Wendy.

My deepest condolences to The Nanian Family.
Once retired from practicing medicine, Dr. Nanian joined my office as a medical consultant for disability cases. He was always pleasant, and clearly knowledgeable. He also shared an excellent blueberry pie for office celebrations! A kind man, who will be missed.

Pat and family,
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this most difficult time. We just heard about Ken's passing today from our son. We are out of state right now or we would have certainly attended today. I have fond memories of Ken, who hired me for my first job after graduating from Katherine Gibbs school. He was wonderful to work for and very patient as I learned the various medical terms of the his practice.
My husband was Ken's patient at a later time for many years, and was always so happy with the great care he was given.

With Sympathy,
Peggy and Howard Hague

Dr.Nanian was a household name growing up. He and my uncle, Ira Anjoorian went to school together and then practiced in the field of medicine when doctors made house calls!! Dr. Nanian and his wife Pat were always loyal supporters of Boy Scout Troop 2, East Greenwich, and The Boy's Home Association. You will be missed and ALWAYS be remembered fondly.
