Satya Reddy Obituary

REDDY, DR. SATYA G. beloved husband, father, doctor and scientist, passed away peacefully in the loving company of his family on Sunday April 17, 2016. Born in a small village in south India, Dr. Reddy was the eldest son of the late G. Subbi Reddy, physics professor and college principal, and Jaya Lakshmi. He enjoyed a joyous childhood with his five loving siblings, Bhaskar, Ramachandra, Kausalya, Prasad and Murali, all of whom looked to him as a role model. After completing medical school at Andhra University in Vizag, Dr. Reddy set out for America in 1972 with nothing but a passionate dream to make new scientific discoveries. As a highly respected neonatologist, Dr. Reddy cared for hundreds of sick premature babies at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital and Women & Infants Hospital of RI. He was revered and loved by countless patients for giving life where there was no hope with his deep knowledge and gentle touch. In addition to his clinical service, Dr. Reddy was an internationally recognized leader in the field of Vitamin D metabolism. He authored over a hundred scientific papers, organized and presented at international conferences, fostered a community of researchers in this cutting-edge field, and inspired a new generation of young scientists. Dr. Reddy was a deeply spiritual man whose faith penetrated every aspect of his life. He was an ardent admirer of great thinkers like Gandhi, Einstein, Y. Subbarow and Mother Teresa. At the core of his life was his beloved family, his wife and life-long best friend, Dr. Vasantha Reddy, and his three precious children Srinivas, Srilakshmi and Sridevi. He was also blessed with two loving son-in-laws, Nitin and Zachary, and five beautiful grandchildren, Karthik, Siddhartha, Kavya, Rahul and Vedanth. Visitation will be held at Swan Point Cemetery Chapel, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI 02906 on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 11am-12Noon, with a service and reception to follow. To Dr. Reddy's family, I am sure you realize how much your father was loved. I had the pleasure of working with him both as a nurse and nurse practitioner. He was a mentor, a colleague and a friend. When I became the parent of a NICU premature infant he offered his support and then offered to examine my child several times regarding my son's Vit D levels. Having his experience was the most reassuring and comforting thing that he was willing to do for my family. I am sad to learn of his passing but am reassured knowing we will meet again. My prayers are for your family's comfort and to give you comfort knowing just how many lives he touched and influenced. I have been blessed to be able to work with him.

I am saddened to hear of Dr. Reddy's passing. I enjoyed working with him in the NICU at Women and Infant's hospital. He was very kind and cared so much for the babies. I loved that he did not conceal his spirituality . I remember being touched when took the time to print ou some of Mother Teresa's teachings for the nurses. Over a period of time, nurses were greeted each day with a new prayer or teaching by Mother Teresa. It was really wonderful. I will never forget it, and I will never forget him.
