Walter Dias Obituary

DIAS, WALTER, 81, of Meadow Lane, died June 17, 2007 at Haven Health Care, Warren. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (August) Dias.

Born in Bristol he was the son of the late Frank and Carrie (Vargas) Dias. He was a lifelong resident of Bristol. He attended Bristol schools until he was drafted into the US Navy. He was a Pipe fitter for the former Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. of Bristol and Portsmouth for 30 years before retiring in 1976.

He was a Life Member of The Eveready Engine and Hose Co. #2, former Scoutmaster of Troop 4 and a member of The Anthony C. Almeida Post VFW, and Kearney Post, American Legion. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII.

He is survived by a son, Walter A. Dias, and his wife Joyce of Saunderstown, daughters, Cynthia Tavares of Bristol and Linda Dias of Pawtucket, a sister, Lillian (Manuel) Vieira of Bristol. He was the grandfather of Michael Tavares and Jonathan Tavares of Bristol, Jennifer Tavares of Barrington, Jeffrey Dias of Kansas City, MO, and Elizabeth Dias of Saunderstown.

A Funeral will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St. with a Mass of Christian Burial 10AM at St. Elizabeth Church, 577 Wood St. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Bristol Fire and EMS, PO Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809. Calling hours Wed. 5-8 pm
