William Quirk Obituary

QUIRK, WILLIAM J. 'CHICO', 68, of Erie Street, a retired Providence firefighter, died Sunday at home. He was the former husband of Patricia (Connors) Quirk, of East Providence, and special friend of Shirley Bergeron, of Cranston.

Born in Providence a son of the late Robert E. and Anna M. (Burke) Quirk, he had been a lifelong city resident.

He was a firefighter for the Providence Fire Department for 28 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Providence Firefighters Union Local 799, the Providence Police and Firefighters Retirement Association, the Providence Permanent Firemans Relief Association, and the Smithfield Elks Lodge #2359. He was a communicant of Saint Agnes Church.

Beside his former wife, Patricia, and special friend, Shirley, he leaves a sister, Ann Plante, of Johnston, his nieces; Patricia Q. Saber, of Matunuck, Mary F. Lennon, of Providence, Anne M. Kaplan, of Needham, MA., Beth E. Nelson, of Providence, his nephew; Robert F. Quirk, Jr., of East Greenwich, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was the brother of the late John E. Quirk, Robert F. Quirk, Sr., and Michael J. Quirk.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Agnes Church, Chatham Street, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Tuesday, 4-7 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Agnes Church, 351 Branch Avenue, Providence, RI 02904, in his memory, will be appreciated.
