Lawrence Vallejo Obituary

Lawrence Vallejo

August 6, 1936 - November 5, 2024

Lawrence L. "Larry" Vallejo, 88, of Silvis, Ill., passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, Ill. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (today), November 8, 2024, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.

Larry was born August 6, 1936, in Horton, Kan., the son of Delores and Sylvia Aguirre Vallejo. He married Doris David. He later married Wynona Meeds November 5, 1979, in Moline, Ill. She passed away February 19, 2016. He retired from the former Case/IH Plant East Moline, after more than thirty years of service. First and foremost Larry loved his family and friends dearly! He was an inspiration to those around him with his kind heartedness, generosity, and unforgettable spirit! Even in his final moments the message of common courtesy and mutual respect for one another was most important.

The "Toe" was his nickname when he played football which he was very good at amongst other sports. He proudly helped coach multiple Junior Panther football and softball teams! Other hobbies included gardening, dancing, fixing things around the house, breakfast with his compadres, and attending crafting events with his beloved Nona. The man who taught his children and grandchildren to be tough; also had a sense of humor. Phrases like "you are hellish like relish", "that's an old Mexican trick", "ain't no thing but a chicken wing" and "mind me." He would occasionally sing all his siblings names in his Indian pow wow voice just to make us laugh.

The grandchildren were truly the treasure to his heart as he encouraged them to do good in school and work hard. Attending all the family events including The Vallejo Family Reunion were very special to him. Above all his faith always remained firm and most empowering! Such as of Our Lady of Guadalupe and rosaries that were displayed all over his home. Larry's memory and legacy will remain in our hearts for generations to come! What simply will be missed by most will be that beautiful smile!

Today, my heart is broken, as ilost a good friend. His heart was big with love and compassion. When Kristin and I had our fire, Larry and Nonnie would come over and help us, Clark and the other guys trear out. When you became Larry's friend, you became family.
