Darren Eugene Jewell

June 20, 1965 - August 29, 2024

Darren was born in Davenport, Iowa and raised in LeClaire, Iowa. He passed away peacefully in his sleep in Hudson, Florida on August 29, 2024. After high school, Darren served in the U.S. Army from 1983-1988 and was awarded the Good Conduct and Sharpshooter medals during his time in the service. He worked as a construction laborer in Iowa and retired from his job as a golf course groundskeeper in Florida. Darren enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors, swimming and listening to music.

Darren is survived by his son Jared Kaleb Jewell, his long-time partner and love of his life, Angie Schlitter-Fetes, and his best friend Robert West. He is also survived by his 9 siblings - Ed Jewell, Lynn (Bud) Walker, Teresa (Dave) Ahrens, Vicki Jewell-Fitzgerald, Deborah Jewell-Serrano (Nick), Billy (Debbie) Jewell, Larry (Sarah) Jewell, Vincent (Chris) Jewell, Danny (Andrea) Jewell; and multiple aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darren was preceded in death by his parents, Vernia Edward Jewell and Mary Elizabeth Jewell, his partner Lisa Ann Jordan Hallam, his wife Shawn Carillo-Jewell, a niece Erika Jewell and a nephew Lucas Jewell.

A committal service will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend the service must meet in the Wyndham Hotel parking lot at 1415 River Drive, Moline, IL at 12:30 p.m. We will leave as one group to enter the Rock Island Arsenal for the service. If you are late and do not enter with the processional, you will miss the service. We are required to exit the cemetery as one group after the service.

There will be a gathering for friends and family after the service at American Legion Post 154 at 2902 State Street, Bettendorf, Iowa from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Darren was not only one of the hardest workers I´ve had the privilege to know but also one of the kindest. He always had a smile on his face and never shied away from a challenge. His positive spirit and dedication will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, Darren.
