DAVENPORT-Don C. Schutter, 98, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Crest Health Care, Ridgecrest Village, Davenport. Due to the current health crisis, private family burial will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors. There will be a Memorial Mass and Celebration of Don's life in the Spring/Summer of 2022. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory, the Honor Flight, Ridgecrest Foundation, or Hospice Compassus.

Don was born April 12, 1923 to Clarence and Amanda (Meyer) Schutter. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1941 and attended the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity until he was called to active duty in the Army Air Corps. During his service in World War II he served as a B-24 bomber pilot flying 38 missions in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater. Following active duty, Don further served in the Air Force Reserves retiring as a Major after 21 years of service.

Don was united in marriage to Mary J. Hiegel on June 25, 1946, at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on February 12, 2015, after 69 years of marriage and wonderful memories.

Don was president and co-owner along with his brother Kay of Tri-City Blueprint Company, Moline. He was past President of the International Reprographic Association and past President of the Davenport I-Club back in the Evasheski days when the Hawks went to the Rose Bowl.

He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and a former longtime parishioner at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church which he joined in 1946 when he married Mary. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Moline where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; the Outing Club, where he enjoyed many heated discussions at the Friday men's roundtable lunches; a longtime member of the original Rock Island Arsenal Golf club where he and his wife enjoyed many golf groups and especially gathering afterwards on the clubhouse porch. He was especially proud of his double Eagle and a hole-in-one on a Par 4 at Duck Creek Golf Course in 1965! He was a resident of Ridgecrest Village since 2009 and served as a board member there as well as a volunteer for the Honor Flight and was honored to have gone on the first flight.

Survivors include his daughters Janet (Steve) Fuss, JoAnne Sandman, Jill (Jay) Farrell, five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Don was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Sandman, his parents, a sister, Helen Custis, and his brother Clarence "Kay" Schutter. May they rest in peace.
