DEWITT-June Irene Hattie Petersen, 101, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus in Davenport.
June was born April 14, 1920, in Calamus, Iowa, to Christian and Agnes (Griebel) Grau, a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt. She attended the Stone School south of Calamus through the eighth grade, and graduated from Calamus High School in 1937. She then received a teaching certificate from Mt. St. Clair College in 1939, and was a country schoolteacher at Grand Mound and Big Rock. June married Robert Petersen on March 15, 1941, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. They farmed together in the Calamus, Lost Nation, and Welton areas for many years. Robert preceded her in death on March 7, 1997.
Survivors are children, Lois Reimers of Davenport, Alta Mae and Ray Poe of Washington, Iowa, Jean and John Vass of Burlington, and Robert and Margaret Petersen of Lost Nation; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Eleanor Grau Matzen, brothers Ralph Grau and Verne Grau, son-in-law Robert Reimers, and an infant sister.
A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Eric Obermann will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Mound.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Petersen, Andrew Reimers, Chad Petersen, Junior Petersen, Jason Goettig, and Martin Marshall.
