He was a photojournalist for the Quad City Times for 39 years before retiring in 2014. Larry received many awards for his photography. One of his most famous photos was of Augustana students reacting to the verdict of the OJ Simpson trial in 1995, which earned Larry a Pulitzer nomination. He enjoyed figure skating, bass fishing, reading, and being outside. Larry was a huge animal lover. He had a great sense of humor, known as the "Fisher wit"; he was very kind and generous. He was also a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Larry is survived by his wife, Jan and two children Jon and Jessy. His corgi, Sasha, will continue to guard his patio and keep an eye on the Mississippi for him. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A couple more childhood memories. I recall Larry being the kind of person who, when interested in something, would pursue it pretty avidly. He loved going to the stock car races at the Fairgrounds every Friday night with his dad during the season. He liked building car models and would build models of the cars of his favorite local racers. Later he, with advice from his carpenter father, built a soapbox derby racer in which he placed second out of dozens in the annual 4th of July race. I always admired that kind of 100 percent commitment to the things he was interested in and cared about. At this anniversary of his passing, know that he is still remembered as a person whose life was well and kindly lived.

I met Larry when I began ice skating years ago. I did not realize until later that I had actually talked to Larry at a roller skating rink before this time. He came with his crew from the Quad City Times to photograph our pairs team.
My condolences to Larry's wife, Janet, and to his wonderful family. Larry always had a friendly smile for all.

Larry was a wonderful man and remarkable photojournalist. His photos told such compelling stories. Many times words weren't even necessary. He was such a professional, always demonstrating respect and if needed assistance to other members of the media and communication professionals. He loved to share a good story and a good laugh. A beautiful soul, who will be missed.

When Larry and I were kids in the 50s and 60s, mine and another family would get together annually with the Fishers to celebrate New Years Eve. I recall one year at the Fishers, sitting with Larry by the Christmas tree, and he proudly showing me a gift he had received. A childs Start-a-Hobby kind of photography set with little trays and tiny bottles of chemicals and a thing for making contact prints. We must have been all of 10 or 11 years old. From such little acorns, mighty oaks may grow. So sorry to learn of his passing.
