Marieta was born on September 18, 1940, the daughter of George and Alice (Dewaele) DePorter, in Milan, IL, the second youngest child of 8 children. She graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island, IL, in 1958. She married Donald Holst on September 2, 1961, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, IL, and they were married for nearly 63 years. They farmed north of Stockton, Iowa, where they raised their five children: Myra, Mike, Tom, Rita and Renae. Marieta lovingly lived out her Catholic faith, and she was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Don.

Marieta was a loving mother who instilled love, faith, and hard work in her family. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, traveling, playing cards, and being with her friends and family. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and some of their favorite memories are playing cards and board games with her. Marieta had a joyful and sweet nature and greeted everyone she met with a smile and her fun sense of humor.

Marieta will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Don; her children, Myra (Perry) Cooper of San Antonio, TX, Mike (Tina) Holst of Stockton, IA, Tom (Ann) Holst of Walcott, IA, Rita (Kurt) Freese of Ida Grove, IA, and Renae (Jim) Lind of Belton, MO; grandchildren, Erin (Alex) Smith, Elise (Vince) Alvarez, Kyle Cooper (Esmerelda), Tyler (Aleah) Holst, Brooke (Austin) Von Ehwegen, Zach (Shannon) Holst, Morgan (Matt) Dykstra, Ben Andry, Emily (Nick) Reeve, Colin Freese (Carlie), Chris Freese (Taylor), Olivia (Jake) Wulf, Elyssa Freese (Nick), Taylor (Anthony) Biondo, Matt (Abby) Lind, and Joe (Johanna) Lind; 15 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way; sisters-in law, Nelda Dierickx, Mary Oetzmann, and Kathleen Wulf DePorter; brothers-in-law, Gene Oetzmann and Jim Hayes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alice DePorter; her brothers, Don, Alan, and Eugene "Bert" DePorter; her sisters, Elaine Blaser, Carol Ehrecke, Joanne Jennings, and Terese Hayes; her brothers-in-law, Paul Dierickx, Bob Blaser, Bill Ehrecke, Tom Jennings; her sisters-in-law, Jeanne DePorter and Judy DePorter; and her great-grandson, Ignatius Lind.
