Lee Ham Obituary

BLACK HAWK - Lee Edward Ham, 66, Black Hawk, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at his residence in Black Hawk. Visitation will be noon from 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church in Piedmont with Pastor Carol Mapa officiating. Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established to the Hospice of the Hills. Lee was born June 5, 1941 at Pierre, SD, to Lloyd Lester and Margaret Elizabeth (Whitby) Ham. He graduated from White River High School in 1959 and enlisted in the US Army. He served in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1962. Lee returned to White River and began a career in road construction that spanned South Dakota and several other states. Lee married Janet Hitchings on September 14, 1963. Lee retired in May of 2007 to his home where he enjoyed the wildlife that surrounded him. He also enjoyed fishing, target shooting, gun shows and the outdoors. He was a member of the American Legion in White River and enjoyed his coffee buddies. Lee married Sandie Ohlson in Rapid City on June 11, 1992. Survivors include his wife Sandie Ham, Black Hawk; one son William "Bill" and his wife Jennifer Ham, Hubertus, Wisconsin; one daughter, Lea and her husband Greg Glaze, Murdo; two grandchildren, Janna and Calli; two sisters, LaVonne Valburg, Valentine, NE, Judy Madsen, Rapid City; also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.kinkadefunerals.com

I am so sorry to hear of Lee's passing. I enjoyed many morning coffee sessions visiting with him and helping him with the horses. He will be sadly missed by all of us. If there is anything I can do to help in your time of sorrow please call me. My prayers are with you.
