He was the husband of Vivian E. (Coller) Casper.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Frank and Mamie L. (Kline) Casper.
He graduated from Reading High School in 1937, Albright College with a B.S. in history in 1949 and Temple University with a master's in psychology in 1967.
He began his career in 1954 at Tilden Township Elementary School as a science and social studies teacher, then was employed as a history teacher at Gov. Mifflin Junior High School. He retired in 1984 as the school's guidance counselor.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Reading.
He was a former member of church council, a longtime Sunday school teacher, past president of South Berks Association Of Retired School Employees, member of Southern Middle School Hall of Fame, and first director of the after-school tutoring program at the church for the Reading School District.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters: Vicky L., wife of Michael G. Pfeifer, of Wyomissing; Beverly D., wife of Laurence M. McGrath, of Ephrata; and Kathy L., wife of James H. Bretz, of Adamstown; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Barry S. Casper, and his brother, Harold Gensemer.
Memorial service from Grace Lutheran Church, 33 S. 11th St., Reading, PA 19602, will be Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Steven E. Belinski officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family in Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church at the above address in memory of Mr. Frank S. Casper.
