Frederic Schearer Obituary

Frederic C. "Fred" Schearer, 87, of Kutztown, PA and Fort Myers, FL, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown. He was the husband of Miriam J. (Loose) Schearer, whom he married on December 24, 1960. Born in Kutztown, Frederic was a son of the late Archie A. and Mamie A. (Meitzler) Schearer and was a 1954 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. He then received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Kutztown State Teachers College in 1958 and a Master's degree at Lehigh University in 1962. Frederic, known to friends and family as Fred, lived a life filled with compassion, dedication, and a profound love for education. Mr. Schearer was employed by The Owen J. Roberts School District, Pottstown, working primarily as a 4th grade teacher from 1968 until his retirement in 1993. Prior to that, Mr. Schearer taught at Wyomissing Elementary School from 1965 to 1968 and Kutztown Elementary School from 1958 to 1965. His passion for nurturing young minds and shaping the future generations was truly admirable, leaving an indelible mark on the countless lives he touched. Fred honorably and faithfully served in the United States Army Active Reserves from 1958-1964. Fred had a deep love and appreciation of the Kutztown community. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of Huguenot Lodge No. #377, F.&A.M., Kutztown, worked for over 50 years at The Kutztown Folk Festival, and was an active and lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown. Being musically talented, he sang in the Church Choir and was a member of The Rajah Shrine String Band, Reading, where he played the banjo. He also played the baritone horn in several German-style bands throughout the years, most recently in Cape Coral, FL. He loved tennis and would teach the sport to anyone who wanted to learn it. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, and even taught it to his 4th grade students as a club activity. The game of chess was also a special, quiet, but challenging club activity with his students. Fred loved being with people. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. Along with his wife of 63 years, Miriam, Fred is survived by his two children, Timothy A., husband of Marianne (Bjonnes) Schearer, Newark, DE, and Christine N. Schearer Cadima, Shady Side, MD; two granddaughters, Emily N. Cadima, currently a student at The University of Virginia, and Andrea N. Cadima, currently a student at The University of Michigan; brother, David J., husband of Karen (Lindenmuth) Schearer, Reading; and sister, Alliene L. (Schearer), widow of James Pyle, Concord, NH. Along with his parents, Fred was predeceased by a brother, William R. Schearer. A memorial service to celebrate and honor Frederic's life will be held at a future date at St. John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown. Burial will be held privately in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Fred's memory is urged to choose St. Johns UCC, 257 W. Walnut Street, Kutztown, PA 19530. Just happened to learn of Fred´s passing. I enjoyed speaking with him through the many years I saw him at the kutztown folk festival - ultimately over 20 years I bet! I will greatly miss not bumping into him from time to time around town.

Miriam, Timothy, Marianne, Christine, Emily and Andrea,
As you mourn the loss of your husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather, know that many others share in your grief. Fred not only taught and inspired many children, he continued to teach and inspire many of his fellow neighbors at Heritage Cove, with tennis, dance and the love of music. We were so fortunate to have known him and will surely miss this great man. We send our condolences and love to each of you.
