John Falter Obituary

John Scott Falter, 75, of Kenhorst, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2023 at 7:43 am, at Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Reading, PA on March 3, 1948, he was a beloved son to the late John M. Falter III and Anna V. (Collier) Falter. John was a graduate of Reading High School, class of 1967 and attended Kutztown University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam as a Staff Sergeant (SSgt) and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. Upon Returning to civilian life, John began a long career in agriculture that reflected his deep love of people and of farming, and his innate drive to make things a little better. For decades, he worked as a 4-H Agent with The Pennsylvania Association of Extension. John loved his career, and he brought a lot of creativity, energy and innovative thinking to his role as a 4-H agent. He organized education and training programs and helped farmers solve their problems. John's true passion was being one with nature. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time hunting, fishing and trapping. John also loved fantasy football and had a passion for sports, primarily baseball; as an Umpire in Berks County and surrounding areas. His passion for mentoring young athletes was obvious to everyone who was lucky enough to cross his path and he enjoyed getting to know every player and their families. John was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was one of the most genuine and kind hearted people that one could have ever experienced. He lived without judgment, malice or regrets. Rather practicing forgiveness, generosity and kindness. The unconditional love that he provided to everyone was unique and memorable. John was a light in so many lives. He had a wonderful perspective on life and could find the good in just about any situation. His humility seemed to rub off on all who knew him, and the memory of him will continue to do so as well. John's spirit will be carried on by his wife, Cindy Falter; 2 daughters Gina M. and Lisa L. Falter; step son Steven W. Rodolff; step daughter Beth A. Wawrzonek; sister Carol L. Fisher and his brother Mark B. Falter. He also leaves behind 2 granddaughters Melanie Serrano and Victoria Sanchez and a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory. In addition to his parents, John was greeted in heaven by his brother William G. Falter. A viewing for John will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Funeral service will promptly commence in the funeral home at 12:00 PM,with Rev. Jeffrey Hain officiating. Graveside committal with full military honors will immediately follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 391 W. Neversink Rd., Reiffton. The Reading High and Kutztown University (KU) alumni lost a great friend and role model in John's passing. John had a calm professional demeanor in dealing with others. It was a trait that he displayed early in life when I first met him at Northeast Junior High School. He used his educational training from KU to mentor others in the workplace for leadership positions. A Viet Nam veteran, John proudly served his country. Rest in peace my friend and thank you for your service.

John was the big brother who I never had. We shared six decades of friendship. He was always caring and always had constructive advice. I could write volumes of the good times we shared together . Grateful that I got to say goodbye to Big John; yes John was a big , big man in so many ways. I consider myself very fortunate to have had John as so close a friend. I know John is now in a better place and I will vision his smile always
