John Sheetz Obituary

John E. Sheetz Jr., 85, Sinking Spring, a retired Reading High School science teacher, died July 2, 2008, at 10:05 a.m. in Reading Hospital.

He was married to his wife of 49 years, Theana (Koutroulelis) Sheetz.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John E. Sheetz Sr. and Nora (Yost) Sheetz Janda.

He was a Reading High School science teacher for many years, teaching biology, chemistry, physics and advanced placement physics, retiring in 1982.

He was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School, and received his bachelor's degree from Kutztown University and his master's degree in sciences from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a pharmacist's mate.

Aside from his wife, he is survived by a sister, Elizabeth M. (Sheetz) Phillips, Sinking Spring; a brother, Thomas Y. Sheetz, Exeter Township; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, James.

Services will be private.

Mr Sheetz was my Physiology teacher in 1967. I remember our final exam was to write out the Kreb's Cycle. He always made learning enjoyable. What a nice man and wonderful teacher!
