Joseph Gordon Obituary


Joseph E. "Em" "Joe" Gordon, formerly of Valley View Road, Nar-von, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Ephrata Community Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn E. (Fry) Gordon of Tel Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage on Aug. 24.

Born in Narvon, he was the son of the late E. Iredell and Emma Della (Hyman) Gordon.

He was a member of Churchtown United Methodist Church where he served as organist for 44 years from 1968 through 2012.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was a life member of Charles Ludwig Post 7362 New Holland, and a member of Conestoga Post 662 American Legion, New Holland.

Joseph was an industrial engineer at New Holland Machine Co., now CNH, for 41 years, retiring in 1991.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Janet L. Shepler of East Petersburg; and sons: Chester E. of Terre Hill, Galen E. of Narvon, Gary D. of Shillington and Glenn I. Gordon of New Holland; eight grandchildren: Joseph, Amy, Kay-la, Ashley, Kyle, Karley, Jacob and Olivia Gordon; and a sister, Floribel Styer of Narvon.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at Churchtown United Methodist Church, 2170 Main Street, Narvon, PA 17555 with the Rev. Dr. James Bamberger officiating. Interment will be in the U.M. Cemetery of Churchtown. Military honors by Penna. National Guard, Red Rose Ceremonial Guard, and the United Veterans Council of New Holland. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, and on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
