Michael Meals Obituary
Michael R. Meals, age 64, of Fleetwood, passed away Friday in Penn State Health St. Joseph's Reading, where he fought cancer for four years under the excellent care of Dr. Marc Rovito and the staff at the cancer center. He is survived by his wife, Janet M. (DeLuca) Meals, together for 24 years.
He was the son of the late Richard C. Meals and Gloria G. (Hinkle) Meals, born on November 19, 1951, in Reading, PA.
He is also survived by his son, Shawn Meals, husband of Jennifer Meals, of Fleetwood; daughter, Michelle (Meals) Wade of Lower Alsace Township; and step-daughter, Danelle Hufford of Shillington. There are also six grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
He graduated from Oley High School in 1969.
Michael had been co-owner, with his father, in the former Meals Mushroom Farms, Fleetwood.
Local stock car race fans will remember that Michael was one of the drivers for his father's blue #44 modified stock car, which he raced at the former Reading Fairgrounds and other local tracks.
Michael's interests were golfing, watching Philadelphia sports teams, NASCAR and being with his family and friends.
He will sadly be missed by his pets: Jake, Scooby and Ginger.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Connie (Meals) Snyder and Sharon (Meals) Nezelkewicz.
A viewing will be Friday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m, followed by the funeral service from the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Inc., 117 West Main Street, Fleetwood, PA. Burial will be in Fleetwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Michael's name to Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604 or the Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro,PA 19508.

Good memories include number 44 at reading fairgrounds. Nice to think of the good old days ,and friends having fun and cheering for drivers like Mike and others.

May everyone find comfort knowing Mike is at peace, after best efforts for good health .
Dave knew Meals family from the #44 at Rdg Fairgrounds , before I met Sharon in '64.
Thankful for long friendship ,and knowing her family. Now the original family of 5 is reunited, and may we all smile with our good memories to help through another difficult time. Blessings to all and God's peace.

I never met him or his dad,but remember the race car at the faigrounds when growing up as a kid, I liked that 44 pinto car, thanks for the memories. may you R.I.P may your family find peace in the lord.
