Wayne Koch Obituary


Wayne R. Koch, 59, Lancaster, formerly of Riverview Park, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Lancaster General Hospital, where he had been a patient for several weeks.

Born Feb. 9, 1951, in Reading, he was a son of the late Claude A. and Florence V. Koch.

Wayne, a quadriplegic since a car accident in 1986, was an advocate for people with disabilities. He served on the Lancaster County Housing Authority and on the Governor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities. He worked with local agencies on building modifications for accessibility.

He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa, Audobon, N.J.; son, Ryan, Shillington; granddaughter, Stella, West Reading; brother, Phillip and his wife, Janet, Macungie; two nephews, Jedidiah and his wife Bianca, and their daughter, Lilyana, Hobert, N.C.; and Darius, and his wife, Emily, and their son, Jackson, Chesterfield, Va.; and brother, Kenneth, Fla.

Wayne donated his organs through The Gift of Life, Philadelphia, and his body through Anatomy Gifts Registry, Glen Burnie, Md., for scientific study.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 149 S. 9th St., Reading, with the Rev. Darryl A. Cruz officiating. Friends and family will be received from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
