Edward Ryan Obituary

Edward J. Ryan III, of North Haven, formerly of Hamden, passed away July 21, 2021, in Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Paula Lesnieski Ryan.

Born in Astoria, Queens, on September 11, 1955, son of Eileen Flanagan McCusker and the late Edward Ryan, Jr., Ed grew up in Wallingford and graduated from Lyman Hall High School, while working for Beaumont Farms, a job he loved and would speak of often. Ed began working for J&E Oil after high school and in 1989 founded the Ryan Oil Co., serving as its President until his passing, proudly working each day with his son and wife. He served as President of the ENTECH, Advanced Energy Training School Board, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Energy Marketer's Association, President of the Columbus Lodge in Hamden, a longtime member of the Hamden Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals (OESP), and a member of Wallingford Country Club.

Ed was an avid sports fan, especially the NY Giants, Boston Red Sox, NY Rangers and Quinnipiac Bobcats. He also enjoyed spending time in the summer months camping at Riverdale Campground in Clinton.

Ed was the proud father of Shannon (Clifford) Lynch and Edward F. (Alyssa) Ryan; Doting Grandpa of Ava, Alivia, and Amelia Ryan and Clifford and Eiley Lynch; Brother of Timothy (Kim) Ryan, Cathleen (Donald) Porto, Eileen (Peter) Specht, James (Paige) Ryan, Frances (Michael) Homich, Patrick (Lisa) Ryan, and the late John "Jack" Ryan; Brother-in-law of Patricia Ryan. He is also survived by his father-in-law Daniel Lesnieski, many nieces, nephews, and too many friends to count. Nothing made Ed happier than spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Ed's family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and all who cared for him at Yale New Haven Hospital through his illness.

Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 4:00-7:00 in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc., 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Divine Mercy Parish at St. Rita Church, 1620 Whitney Ave. in Hamden, Tuesday morning at 10:00. Relatives and friends are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to ENTECH, 10 Alcap Ridge, Cromwell, CT 06416.

The news of Ed's death brings sorrow to all who know the special integrity and promise of members of the Ryan clan, strong people who from their birth have lived with role models who represent the best that Wallingford can give. It is a loss for all the communities that Ed was part of in various aspects of his rich and full life.

My condolences to Eddy's family. He was one helluva guy,and would do anything for you ,including coming to my freezing home on a very cold Christmas Eve to bring our family oil that I let run out. He came right out at 10:30 that night and upset his holiday toake sure ours was nice and warm and toasty ! That was Ed,no problem Val. That wasn't one of many times. A better person was not on this earth! I didn't see h much over recent years but we always talked when we do if meet up with each other.God bless you Eddy Ryan.

To Shannon & Eddie,

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mr. Ryan was such a great man and will truly be missed.

A fond memory I have of the time I spent over the years with Mr. Ryan are the countless HYHA hockey games growing up. Driving all over the state of CT and even MA with Mr. Ryan and Eddie. He was so nice and kind to myself and my family and will be kept in our thoughts and prayers.
