Peter Lowe Obituary

Peter Austin Lowe, Sr., died August 14, 2019, with his loving family by his side.

Peter was born June 22, 1951, in Meriden and was the son of Carey Lowe, Jr., and Barbara Lowe. He was educated in Meriden schools and attended UCONN for two years. For those that knew Peter and Elaine, his wife of 40 yrs., she was the love of his life and he is the love of hers. Together they raised three outstanding children: Peter A. Lowe, Jr. (daughter-in-law Marsha), Katie Lowe (son-in-law Ray Tocionis), and Stacey Lowe. Peter is also survived by his precious Grandchildren Harper and Peter A. Lowe, III; Siblings Mary Kelleher (husband Greg), Carey Lowe, III (wife Cheryl), Susan Lowe-Heaney (husband Mike), and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Ernest Lowe.

Pete had a great sense of humor and loved working, especially with his bulldozer. Pete was very compassionate and selfless, always putting others first. He had an immeasurable love for his family and his favorite place to be was on the farm with his family. Peter owned two businesses in Meriden: Lowe Excavating and Construction, LLC (his father started in 1946) and Mountain Spring Water Company.

Interment will be private. Pete and his family want to extend special thanks for exceptional care to Hartford Hospital, Sterling Physicians, Dr. Todd Alekshun, Dr. Megan Panico, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Raymond Mak and Holly Poitras, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor may be donated to Pete's favorite charity, the St. Labre Indian School, Water Well Fund, PO Box 216, Ashland, Montana, 59003.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext. For online condolences visit: www.wallingfordfh.com

I Worked with Peter, Ernie and Gibby summers when I was in high school for Lowe construction excavation. Peter was like a big brother and taught me a lot about construction. I've never met a harder worker than Peter. He was always smiling and patient as I tried to keep up with him. I never could. Ernie was my best friend and I think of him often. Rest easy my friend.

Our sincere condolences to the Lowe family. A Great business man, father, and grandfather. We had the privilege of knowing him and his father as customers at Mountain Spring for many years. We would laugh and joke as to many things like we could fill the the 5 gallon bottles to the neck and get an extra quart or if we were close to closing time we would say we drove all the way from Bridgeport could you stay open a little longer to get 7- 5 gallon bottles filled. Never forget I had to remind him my name was not Gary as he said I looked like his neighbor. I would say OMG you have double trouble. Our Hearts and Prayers are with you in remembering Pete. God has a Spring for him to fulfill.

So, so sorry to hear of Peter's passing....my sincerest condolences to Elaine and Family. Peter was a rock who will be greatly missed. He was a "Salt of the Earth" wonderful guy who was and always will be my friend. He was my first childhood friend when my family moved to Meriden in 1957. We played together as children, went to school, went to prom's with our dates, and were on the Maloney Wrestling Team together. We saw each other less frequently after high school & marriage, but when we did see each other, it was as though we never skipped a beat. I will miss you Pete...."until we meet again."

To Mary and all your family. I am so very saddened to read of Peters passing. I have such wonderful memories of him from high school, your house on East Main St,and the homecoming dance we never got to because of the snow. He was always just the nicest person. May he rest in peace with the Lord and all his angels. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My heartfelt condolences to you all. Pete was an amazing person. Always willing to go over and above to help with no thought of reward for himself, simply because it was the right thing to do. The world is a little darker without him in it, but the night sky has another shining star blazing fiercely for all to see and follow his light!

Pete was the first person we met in Durham, he dug our foundation with the help of then-three year old PJ. Elaine was one of the first neighbors to introduce herself and invite me and Matthew to the every Friday morning playgroup. What a wonderful way to begin life in our new house with our new baby! We have treasured having the Lowes as neighbors for 36 years now. Matt and Sam's childhood memories include every member of this family from day one. We consider ourselves lucky to have known Pete Lowe. He is a true example of what a husband and father should be, his work ethic is incomparable. Our hearts are with the entire Lowe family. We hope your memories and the deep love you have for one another comfort you. Thinking of you every day with love.

I had the pleasure of working with Peter as his insurance agent for the last 14 years. I have never met a kinder, more gentler man who was always ready to give anyone the shirt off his back on a moments notice. His love for his family was evident in the twinkle of his eyes whenever he spoke of all of you. He will truly be missed by many. My deepest sympathies are with you all.
