Margaret Fitzpatrick Obituary

Margaret Fitzpatrick

Shelburne Falls, MA — Our beloved sister, Margaret Fitzpatrick (1957-2022) died April 28 after a lengthy fight with pulmonary fibrosis. Margaret—a servant to the public for most of her life, responded quickly—time and time again—to the needs of others around her—both family and friends.

She was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. People from Shelburne Falls and surrounding Hilltowns knew her as a restaurateur/owner of Margo's Bistro, Tusk N' Rattle, Ollie's Down Under, and Under Dogs. Folks far and wide enjoyed her many years of catering parties and weddings with Party Girl's Catering. Still others relished her art work and musical talent with the band She Said.

We, her siblings, admired Margaret—the darling of our family, for her courage in facing the many challenges that came with being born with congenital cataracts—resulting in no peripheral vision, and being legally blind. As a child she watched TV, read, and drew from only inches away. We remember her young days of daredevil-dives and swiftly riding her tricycle up and down the sidewalk. All that contributed to the get-it-done-recreate-yourself-woman that she became. Her life changed at ages seventeen and eighteen when she received cataract surgery and was able to wear the GP contact lenses that are used today.

Not only was Margaret generous and hospitable, she was so alive—vibrant, and downright funny. She now rests in the peace of the love-mystery that continues after this life. We'll be meeting her in the snakes, flowers, dogs, and folk music she so loved. And we will forever honor her in her goodness, laughter, and creativity.

A Memorial Service and reception for family and close friends will be held at Three Sisters Sanctuary (Goshen, MA), June 12 from 1-4pm with the ceremony starting at 1:15.

Margaret was one of the kindest, most talented and loving people I´ve ever known. I was so incredibly sad at her passing. She and I had many wild adventures and happy, silly, and joyful times spent together!
I think of her often and feel comforted she is no longer in pain.

May your hearts always be filled with wonderful, happy family memories as you celebrate a life well lived. Amen

So sorry to hear about the passing of Margaret. She and I grew up together in Cambria Heights and played together many times in our yards. I will always remember her as very sweet and kind. My condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.

I, as we so many are, am so saddened to have learned of Margaret´s passing. She was an absolutely amazing woman with a heart as big as the ocean and a sense of humor beyond anyone else I know. I remember meeting her for the first time at The North Star restaurant in Northampton back in the 90´s where she was the executive chef. Working with her for so many years there and being part of her catering staff were the best parts of life I´ll always remember. Margaret Fitzpatrick was an amazing woman who had such positive energy and could brighten the day for anyone. I am so sorry for the family and friends she left behind. She will always be missed but never ever forgotten.
Love you Mags.
