Shane Hunter Obituary

Shane Michael Hunter

Charlemont, MA - It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of Shane Michael Hunter born on April 26, 1962 to Bruna Tinney (Tonoli) and William Bruce Hunter of Pittsfield, MA. Shane passed on May 2, 2025 at the home he shared with his partner in life & soul mate, Kim Blakeslee of Charlemont. Shane had two siblings and two 1/2 siblings Paula LaLonde (Rick), Paul Hunter, Donald Tinney, Jr and Rebecca Hunter. Shane raised three beautiful children with his former spouse Holly (Huska) Hunter, Johannah Hunter (Brian Brazee), Jessie Hunter, and Cassidy Hunter. He had one grandson, Sylis Hunter, who was his pride and joy following in Shane's love of karate and earning his Green Belt on his Papa's birthday. Shane also leaves behind his his step-father Donald Tinney, Sr., several nieces and nephews and his Charlemont family, Sophie, Alison, Eve, & Lani Blakeslee and Geoff Wilson. Shane loved music, was a gifted songwriter, and performer with a solo appearance in song as a dedication to his father who had passed away when he was seventeen years old. Shane earned his black belt in karate under his beloved mentor Pat Litano. He jump started his adult life by taking a solo bicycle trip from Pittsfield to Prince Edward Island, showcasing his strength, stamina, perseverance and independence, all characteristics of who Shane was. He earned his Associates in Human Services from Berkshire Community College with an eye toward social work but would eventually own his own business, Hunter Building Contractor, leaving his quality craftsmanship on buildings and homes across Franklin & Berkshire County. He only laid down his tools 3 1/2 months before succumbing to the grip of colon cancer. Such a determined strong soul. He remained in love until the very end. These were sweet years. He was beloved and will be forever missed. At his request, services will be private. Arrangements under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Shelburne Falls.

Sometimes we blink and we take for granted, that someone we plan to be here forever is just not here anymore. Shane was that guy we might not talk to for a year or two and then we'd cross paths or need him to build something, you just pick up where you left off. We always knew we could count on a quality job, lots of laughs, some deep conversation, good music and a genuine good friend would be pulling into the yard. His passing is beyond a few tears, it's a true heart ache. To know him has been to get pissed at him and love him at the same time. With love being the most important thing. God speed my friend.

When I was 10 years old, my family moved from Texas to Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Walking into Crane Elementary School and into my new fifth grade class, I didn´t know anyone. I had no friends. I didn´t know where to sit or who to sit next to. Then I heard a kid say, " Hey, you can sit next to me." This wonderful kid was Shane Hunter.
For the next 50 years, our lives would be connected. We went to junior high school and high school together. We were in a band together and shared an apartment together. I was the best man at Shane`s wedding, and he was the best man at my wedding. Our kids even hung out a little bit when they were younger. I have so many wonderful memories of our times together.
Towards the end of his life, Shane said to me, "Jack, I want you to know, I believe in Jesus Christ." Shane understood that he was a sinner and needed Jesus Christ as his Savior. I´m grateful he trusted in Jesus Christ for his salvation.
I´m also so grateful that the Lord placed Shane on my path, because my journey through the wilderness of this world would never have been as special without Shane on that path with me.

Thank you, Lord, for my friend, Shane.

Holly, Kim and the entire Hunter Family, on behalf of Dennis and I and all our children, please accept our deepest condolences for Shane´s passing of this world . We have such great memories of our days before and in early parenthood , laughing and struggling through it all. He could put a realistic , humorous spin on everything. Shane was such a talented artistic carpenter . The work he did in our 170 year old farmhouse is timeless and everlasting . Our hearts are broken for you all. May his legacy lie in his children , grandson and all those he loved and cherished which are too many to count. May Saint Michael the archangel greet Shane at the Heavenly gate.

Requiescat in Pace Shane Michael Hunter
