Rosendo Camarena, Sr. Obituary

Rosendo "Ross" Camarena was born on March 1, 1937. He came to Porterville from San Dimas at age 5 and passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the age of 73.

Ross attended Porterville schools and enlisted in the army at age 17 where he served in the Korean war in which he received a medal of good conduct.

Ross worked hard as a truck driver for Shropshire Trucking and Victor Cruz Trucking prior to his employment with Porterville Citrus, Grand View Heights, and Exeter Citrus Association, where he retired after 50 years of employment. Ross was a businessman and took pride in owning his own trucking company and managing his apartment complex.

Ross enjoyed watching football, Las Vegas entertainment, as well as going to Eagle Mountain Casino. He loved working on his ranch, spending time with family and friends, and especially watching his grandchildren participate in sporting activities and school events. After his retirement, Ross and the "love of his life," Alice, spent time traveling and exercising at Porterville College Gym.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Mary Camarena, his daughter Debbie "Becky" Sanchez, and grandson David Sanchez, Jr.

He is survived by his wife Alice of 51 years, son Rosendo, Jr. and companion Jana Patterson; son David, his wife Cindy; daughter Jovita and her husband James Dabney, all of Porterville. He leaves behind son Raymond Coronado along with his wife Lorraine of San Jose, and Ross "Chendo" Hernandez of Porterville.

Ross is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; Brice Camarena currently serving in the U.S. Air Force in Japan, Jonathan and Joshua Camarena, Christian, Alicia, and Victoria Dabney, Raymond Jr. and Jeremy Coronado, Christopher, Rebecca, and Kelly Sanchez, Patricia Jackson, Raquel Garcia, Sunshine Hernandez plus several great-grandchildren.

In addition, Ross will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters; Rachel Gonzalez and her husband Alex of Visalia, Rudy Camarena of San Jose, Lupe Garcia and her husband John, Joe Camarena and wife Mary, all from Porterville, Arthur Camarena and wife Lisa of Guatemala, Alice Orosco and friend Eddie Wallace of Porterville, John Camarena and wife Sue of Scotts Valley, Fred Camarena and wife Terri of Phoenix, Arizona, Gloria Acosta, Richard Camarena, and Bob Camarena and wife Mary, all of Porterville. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel and Rosary Vigil will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Myers Chapel.

A Mass will be held Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St Anne's Catholic Church with interment following at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Ross will be truly missed by all.

Dear Alice and Family: My deepest sympathy for your loss and love one..Ross. HE has taught me alot about the work that he enjoyed doing inside packing house. And mention to always take pride in one's work that one does and to be proud of who you are,Latino! Always paying close attention to detail! Ross was not only my boss at Grandview but a good friend. Though I had not seem him, hearing about his passing he will be truly missed, he was very good man and A Great Manager, their will be no one paralel to him.
