Rev. Larry Eugene Slavens 78, died in Mt. Carmel East Hospital Columbus, Ohio on September 15, 2018. He was born on May 4, 1940 in Washington Court House, Ohio to William H. Slavens and W. Pauline Cummins Slavens. His parents and a brother, Dennis predeceased him as well as his wife of 50 years, Shirley R. Trouten Slavens who passed in April 2010.
Larry is survived by his sons Thomas (Joy) Slavens of Laurel, DE, Dr. Timothy (Maureen) Slavens of Beavertown, PA, and daughter Charidth (Paul) Collins of Pataskala, OH; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Larry graduated from Washington Court House High in 1958 and studied for the ministry graduating with a Th. B. from God's Bible School and College, Cincinnati, Ohio in 1962. Over the course of his ministry he pastored or assisted churches in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia for the Pilgrim, Wesleyan Methodist, God's Missionary, Church of Christ in Christian Union, and Wesleyan denominations. He was also a teacher in the founding years of Penn View Bible Institute in Penns Creek, PA starting in 1966.
Larry's hobbies included hunting, wood working, crafts, and spending time with his family. He was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 22, at the Beavertown God's Missionary Church, Middleburg, PA, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. Internment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
