J. Berg Obituary

J. (Joy) Ellis Berg
J. (Joy) Ellis Berg, 90, passed away on Dec. 27, 2020 from complications of COVID. Ellis was born in French Camp, California on November 21, 1930 and lived most of his life in San Joaquin county. He was a 1950 graduate of Manteca Union High School. During the Korean War, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a medical orderly in San Francisco. After studying at Modesto Junior College, Ellis was soon hired by San Joaquin County Public Works and worked there until he retired in 1991. Ellis worked in prison ministry and was an active member of the Full Gospel Men's Fellowship International for many years. He met his wife, Peggy Joan Johnson, at a church function and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ in Stockton, CA for 57+ years. He loved to sing and sang for many years as a soloist and member of musical groups. He was a true musician, not only singing, but playing the mandolin, the bass viol and even the clarinet. He was a hard worker and good example of a Christian man to those with whom he came in contact. Ellis loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, all his life and constantly studied the Word of God,the Bible, preparing sermons until his death.
Ellis is preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Berg and Fern Lucille (Stone) Berg, and his wife, Peggy Joan (Johnson) Berg. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Joann Berg of Stockton, CA, his son; William Ellis Berg of Seattle, WA; and his sister, Betty Frost of Holiday Island, AR. He also has many cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his little dog, Dolly.
